Helix Hotel, a Kimpton Hotel

Funky boutique hotel. Not nearly as upscale as most Kimpton properties and its obviously an old building that has been redone, but it's a nice place, nice area, and well run. If you want a good and somewhat offbeat hotel at a reasonable price, it's a great spot. If you want upscale or traditional, it won't be your cup of tea.

This hotel was very nice for the price. The free wine reception was a nice touch, and the free wifi- though spotty at times, was convenient. Free coffee/tea/hot chocolate in the morning was appreciated. All the staff were nice and helpful, and it was very clean.The location is on a more quiet street, but a short walk to the all White House and transit. […] It was a large room and the bed was comfortable. Our room overlooked the garbage and rats (yuck!) but we didn't come for the hotel view. Shampoo and conditioner is from a general pump in the shower, which is actually very smart but I'm sure some people wouldn't like that, however, our "body wash" pump was empty. Overall a good stay! Just a bizarre looking room. Not as classy as I thought it was going to be. They didn't do any of the things they said they would do. Just not at all impressed.

The service was awful. You would think the staff as trained how to not be helpful and/or how to be rude. As one example I ordered a bottle of wine and they brought up two dirty wine glasses and told me the wine was in the mini bar. When I asked for coffee in the morning they told me room service was over but when asked for options they directed me to […] caribou across the street. We had such an amazing experience at the Helix. We requested an early check-in, they politely accomodated us, we requested a late check out and they were equalling accomodating. The wine and champagne happy hour was amazing and the food specials were priced so well that the taste far exceeded our expectations. It was an old building converted to a hotel. Guest and cleaners share the same elevator.There was party music playing all the time in the hotel lobby with colorful lighting. Definitely for young people.

The room was very interesting and fun. The room seemed chopped up because there was a corridor to the tiny bathroom. It is a fun hotel to stay in with a great location. One thing that was disappointing was the fee to park the car. Other hotels were charging less. It was a very different looking interior design. Everything was modern, clean, and nice. I would stay there again. The pictures of the people on the wall are amusing and a little odd. Room was small but it did the job for a good nights sleep.

As a boutique hôtel, this was generally good. Bathroom a little small, and counter space there limited. Was a fun and comfortable place to stay.

We loved our room and everything was pretty clean and comfortable. The staff however was not so great. The bar restaurant was slow and we waited ten minutes to be helped. Also, the valet service was rude, expensive, and they forgot to place our bags in our car like we asked them to after check out. We went to see the sights only to come back and pick […] up our car and drive all the way home when we saw that the trunk was empty. I know we should have checked but they assured us they would be there. When we drove an hour and a half back, they were rude and seemed to think that it was no big deal. We stayed at the Helix over the Thanksgiving holiday and were blown away by the overly-friendly staff, large comfortable (quiet) rooms, fast room service, and an overall relaxing stay. The only downside was the location was a bit of a walk from all of the area attractions. We will certainly be going back.

I enjoyed the hip vibe and the fun decor. I really liked my room; the nook for the bed and the curtains separating it from the main area were a nice touch. Housekeeping was great and everything worked well. A few things I did not like: Folks with dogs were staying next to me; the dogs barked a lot. I reported it to management; they were still noisy […] the next nights. You have to either join a free Klimpton club or pay $11.99 for wifi. I like everything about this hotel: National Mall is in 15 minutes walking distance, Whole Foods grocery aroung the corner, Bank and post office in 5 minutes walking distance, The hotel is petfriendly, The personal is very professional, A complimentary wine reception from 5 till 6 pm :) The place appeared to be a secure and quiet one.

I have stayed here several times and the hotel is always clean and friendly. Staff are pleasant and helpful. The rooms are different but quiet and comfortable. I enjoy the boutique aspect. Very nice wine hour from 5 - 6 pm. WiFi good and free. Location is safe, quiet and central.

Hotel service was great, but I noticed some damage to the wall in the bathroom. The shower pressure was pretty weak. Also there are only 2 elevators in the hotel.....they are very slow and you have to share them with the house keepers even when they are transporting soiled linens/towels.

Best experience ever. Room was modern and as clean as could be. Price was affordable and a great deal. Location was great for a night out on the town. A number of bars and restaurants all within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful with recommending where to eat and go. I will DEFINITELY stay at the Helix again and again.

We found this hotel quite convenient and well-priced. While the room's wallpaper was separating a bit and the mini-bar was inexplicably locked, the experience was overall great. Staff was friendly and the Helix bar served great original drinks and excellent food until late.

It was an anniversary and a great excuse to get away. I had been to The Rouge and knew The Kimpton reputation to be eclectic and kitschy with a penchant for quality service. The room smelled horrible, the rug was wet, the initial staff member who greeted me was apparently in a terrible mood and took it out on me. I also reserved a king deluxe and arrived […] and was informed they were booked and I would be getting a double queen room. I did speak with the manager and am awaiting a complimentary night stay. The hotel was so creatively designed, making it fun to walk through each new door, from the entrance to the bar/dining area to the room. The key hotel essentials for me all got a top grade -- very comfortable bed, clean bathroom, everything in top working order -- but cute, out of the box extras were thrown in, such as $10 worth of free goodies from […] the room bar, and a wine hour on the house. We missed the latter because we arrived too late, and they gave us tickets for free glasses of wine. All in all loved the hotel experience. Läs mer

Good points: good sized room (we had a suite), but with so much to do in DC we did not spend much time in it; comfortable and quite trendy; fairly central location. My second stay here was as good as I remember. It is in a great neighborhood for walking and exploring dc's nightlife and close to many popular tourist attractions. Although kids are allowed it is not a spot I would like to VACAY with the kiddies in tow unless they r older like thirteen and up. But I would def stay again !!
