Hotell Rodeway Inn - Lawrence

Was looking for something cheap for the first night of our vacation and thought I had heard Howard Johnson was trying to improve their reputation, but I wouldn't stay in this one again. We couldn't sleep comfortably and woke up at 4:00 next morning and headed on our way.

Location was not bad. Although, it was hard to tell that you were at the hotel because of the missing sign. The room was very dated, dresser was broken and unable to be used, the shower chair was too big for the bathtub (which my husband needed to bathe), there were cobwebs in the corners of the bathroom, there were black hairs all over the bathroom […] and the coffee making area. Cleanliness was a huge issue. There were no pool towels, we were told to use the towels from our room and if we wanted more towels we would have to go to the front desk for them. Howard Johnson in Lawrence KS is declining. You can tell that it had better times long time ago. The lady at the front desk on June 8 around 9 pm failed to answer the phone and was not helpful providing the code for wifi which she insisted she had written in the keycard envelope. You can tell this hotel is trying to upgrade itself. We had two rooms, and one had a horrible smell when we checked in. The front desk was very prompt in getting us another room close by & we noticed them airing out & trying to fix it. The location is really good for the freeway/school & stores. The worst place I ever stayed! I would never tell anyone to stay in that terrible dirty smelly place. It's nothing like the pictures you showed. There was dripping water from the celing and the room was so dirty. The smell was horible. The pool was full of green water. This place should be closed down!

It wssn't family friendly, The resturant didn't open till after 7 AM. It just seemed that there was no care if you stayed or not.

I know this hotel is very inexpenseive, but this place is pretty low grade. We ran into a couple before we checked in who said they found bugs in their bed. So we checked in anyway and the room was musty and unkept. The next morning I had bug bites all over me. The sheets seemed unclean and it was just an overall bad experience.

It was very filthy. The carpets were terrible. The waste baskets were filthy. We had someone knocking on our door at 11:30 pm. At 4:15 am there were 5 men and 2 women in the parking lot outside of our room drinking, gd ing all they said, f ing all they said, loud, laughing, yelling, until 8 am. Looking out the window and seeing the bandanas around their […] heads and other things, there was no way we would contact the front desk for help about this. I had a stroke in '85 so was very uncomfortable the entire night. I do not expect you to post this, but I believe you need to know what is going on. We only wanted a place to spend one night and have the respect from the hotel that we gave to them. Sorry it was a bad experience and because of this, I cannot recommend anyone to stay at this place. They appear to be renovating, however, as of March 2012 this place is not worth half of what I paid for it. Everything smells like smoke. Sheets, towels, & comforters are stiff, overused, and itchy (Bring a sleeping bag). The entire building has an abandoned hospital feel to it. TV's aren't HD. First off the main sign out front is super ghetto. Our first room had the stickiest bathroom floor I have ever seen. Called up front and was told "we don't have maintence or anyone to mop it so we got a new room. Hallways smelled disgusting. I booked a double Queen online and the n was told " we only have full beds" why would you advertise queen then? […] Good thing we only stayed from about 3am to checkout. You can tell it was at one time a decent hotel but it jsut comes down to its not. Our heater in our room didn't work. we asked for another and were moved into another room where the heater didn't work. We got moved to a 3rd room and the heater was terrible then in the middle of the night it kicked on and we woke up to the hottest room ever!! Bad experience […] over all. Toilet plugged up, heat went out in the middle of the night. Security door broken. Dark, cold, mildewed hallways. Staff was very kind, but we still left early, even though we had prepaid. There was absolutely nothing to recommend this hotel to others. Completely average and beat down. That said, there is a great walk around the nearby Lawrence Country Club Golf Course but that has nothing really to do with the hotel now does it?

This motel-hotel, once a beautiful place, shows the sign of neglect and age. The outside door, supposedly secure, did not shut when a person went in and out. The desk clerk could not decide which computer to use. The computer was having difficulty with taking a debit card payment for the pet fee and she claimed that it declined the charge when I had […] just charged three times the amount one hour before in Kansas City. The location was convenient and nice to have a lounge on site. The hotel was undergoing some remodeling and the hallways where we had to enter did not smell great. Room was comfortable. It is an older building an much needs remodeling. For the state during our stay, the rate should have been a little less.

The floors in the hallways were concrete, I felt like I was in a maze trying to get to my room, and I know it's a college town so college kids are most likely going to be the employees, but the kid at the front desk was rude and was too busy talking to his friends that had been loitering outside the hotel. Overall, unsatisfied.

This hotel was clean, but you could tell it is aging. For the price, it was a very comfortable stay as we only needed it for a place to sleep. The other perk is that the room came with a microwave and mini fridge.

I was rented a room that was horrendous. They moved me to a suite which was clean. Though at 3am some crackhead woman that supposedly fell down the stairs was bleeding and yelling for help. I called the front desk and they came and took care of it. the service was good but the experience was quite crazy.

Please listen to the people who rate this hotel low. You will walk into the front door and it will SMELL. You must pay for breakfast. The beds are very uncomfortable, the staff was rude. Hotel was old, dark, and dirty. Hotel overall was in very poor condition - magnetic lock on outside access doors were broken, Half the lights in room were burnt out, tub/shower was in poor shape. No hot water available to shower with at 8:30AM on Saturday morning.

The room we stayed in was okay, but because of the construction, some of the hallways that we needed to use in order to get to our room were in horrible condition -- cement floors. Another family member stayed on a different floor, and the condition of the hallway was much better. The hotel was "in the middle of an 18 month renovation". The stairwells smelled like urnine, the rooms like mold and must. There were no carpets in the hallways and the curtains were falling off the windows. This hotel should be closed during said "renovation".

The hotel supported the MS Bikeathon riders for the weekend with excellent service and the breakfast in the cafe was of excellent value.

For the rate, I didn't expect awesome, but I didn't expect horrible. The place is undergoing renovations, and initially I was booked onto the floor that had no carpeting, just the concrete floors, and construction going on. The front desk was very helpful, and moved me to the 3rd floor. The smell was horrible, the carpet worn, many plaster repair areas […] in the common areas as well as the rooms, wallpaper peeling off. One of our room numbers was handwritten on the wall, as the sign was gone. This place felt like a weekly or monthly rental hotel, and was disgusting. I had 3 nights, 2 rooms booked, and after the 1st night we made reservations in a hotel 25 miles away as that's all that was available. It was Family Weekend at KU. So, my great rate ended up costing me $500 extra. Very disappointing. In my opinion, the hotel needs to be razed, not just remodeled. Läs mer

When choosing a hotel we are concerned with price and accomodations. The hotel was advertised as having breakfast included. No breakfast was available unless we paid for it at the hotel breakfast resurant which smelled like cooked fish and old greasy griddels. as this was a two day stay and there were three adults this added an extra 6 meals we had […] not budgeted for. Internet was slow and we had to call the front desk for passwords. towels were clean but thin. ice machines were not located where indicated on hotel map. The hotel was adequate but not anything but adequate. The "handicap" room didn't have a roll in shower. The bed was about 4 inches higher than a wheel chair. the toilet was not raised. First thing there was no lighted sign on the property. We drove in at night and had a hard time finding it because how dark it was.
