THREE COUPLES STAYED AT HOTEL COLON. IT IS IN AN EXCELLENT LOCATION, HELPFUL PERSONNEL AND A CHARMING STAY. ALL OF US AGREE, WE COULD NOT RECOMMEND IT HIGH ENOUGH

This is a wonderful hotel in a great location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are staying in Barcelona you will be pleased with this wonderful place.

Barcelona was wonderful! But, the hotel made my visit even better because of the location-right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter. What could be better than having a hotel in front of the Barcelona Cathedral, a few steps away from Barri Gothic, La Rambla, the Boqueria, and so many other must-see places in Barcelona. We loved the surrounding area and although it was in a busy plaza, it did not have the throngs of people we saw in some other areas. The tour bus stop was a block away (very convienient) It is a traditional luxury hotel. Very satisfied!

Very nice hotel, conveniently located it the Gothic area. Directly across from the Cathedral and close to everything. Hotel staff was great, very helpful. Very nice large bathroom. A little pricey but very convenient.

Location was fantastic--we got to see traditional dancing with live music in the plaza late on Saturday afternoon plus the line up and start of the Corpus Christi parade on Sunday afternoon just because we were staying right on the Cathedral plaza. Staff at front desk was very helpful and responsive to any request. I don't remember if we had the option to get breakfast included. If you are offered that option, note that full breakfast bought in the hotel is 18 Euros. However, coffee alone (as much as you like) is only 2 Euros. Continental breakfast is probably somewhere between. After paying the full amount one day, we then went to plan B, buying coffee only, finding a breakfast sandwich at a nearby little hole-in-the wall and filling up on inexpensive fruit from the huge market on La Rambla, just a few minutes' walk away. This hotel is in the best location in Barcelona! Upgrade to a balcony facing the cathedral. Some people may complain about the bell, but the doors shut very well and keep out most of the sound. I did not lose any sleep due to any noise. Everything is within walking distance including the train. Their train system is pretty easy to use. There is a great […] hole in the wall bar close to the hotel called Spritz. They have great drinks and the lowest prices around. Got to try the Spritz and the Sangria! One block from the nearest Metro Station. 5 minute wlk to Las Ramblas area. Room clean and locatioon wi=hilw close to Gothic area and Las Ramblas shopping was very quiet. We stayed two nights before boarding a cruise at the Barcelona port. Being located on the Gaudi plaza makes this the perfect location. Everything we wanted to see and experience was within easy walking distance. The hotel was everything it promised - friendly, spacious and very comfortable. The staff was wonderful and we would definitely stay there again.

This is a 3 star hotel. The bed was hard, the room tiny, and the decor dated. After flying all night we couldn't get into our room until 1:20pm. However, the location was fantastic (although noisy). Loved being across from the cathedral and in the gothic quarter. Felt it was overpriced for the quality of the hotel.

I visited with my son in April 2011 for 2 nights. The location is great - opposite the cathedral. We had a room looking onto a side street. Room is a bit tired - decor could do wth refreshing and a few cracked tiles in the bathroom floor. Friendly staff. WiFi only in reception and then not available if you have a Mac like me- you have to go tho their […] sister hotel ion the next street where it works fine. we stayed in colon hotel for 4 nights, un Feb 2011 and found the room was clean and very comfortable. we found 2 flaws: 1. during the stay we had 1 day without hot water - nobody at the hotel told us about it (we found out the hard way: trying to take a shower at midnight) and no compansation was offered. 2. the breakfast in the hotek was 18 Euro per […] person - extremeky expansive!! We loved our stay at Hotel Colon in Barcelona. The hotel is beautiful, prime location, wonderful staff. Nightly turn-down service, a beautiful little box with delicious chocolates left on the bed. Our room was spacious, and the bathroom, too, was quite a good size. There was everything you might need in the bathroom. The towels were nice and thick, […] there were lovely bathrobes and slippers. The only thing we were not thrilled with were the beds. There were supposef to be two doubles, but what we actually had was more like twin beds at most. A wonderful location in the center of everything. You can walk almost anywhere from there. The hotel itself, especially the rooms, is a little tired and needs a freshening up, but it is kept clean and the staff are very helpful. There are lots of nearby small cafes for breakfast so you can avoid the pricier buffet in the hotel. This hotel was fantastic! Not only did they upgrade our room without us asking, their were so helpful to 2 novice European travelers! They made our first couple of days in Spain memorable!!

The hotel staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We arrived early and our room was ready by 1030 am. They upgraded us to a room on the 4th floor with an amazing view of the Cathedral. The hotel is in a very ideal location, central to everything. It was a great stay!

We chose the Hotel Colon because of it's superb location. We were upgraded to a room with a view of the cathedral. The room was large and pleasant. The staff spoke English. Hotel is 10-15 minute easy walk to waterfront where several restaurants await. Return walk was different route while passing small shops, bakeries, etc. In other direction is La Rambles and Gothic quarter with all of its small shops and street vendors. Bottom line - good location. Room? 5th floor; back side; very quiet. Small but not inadequate. Air […] conditioning worked but not as cool as I normally would like. Front desk? Helpful with restaurant and taxi reservations and input about area. Breakfast? Convenient but way overpriced. Would I stay again? If price is right. No air of any kind. It was very uncomfortable. The bed was atrocious.

We stayed here prior to leaving on a cruise. It is in a great location. Across from Cathedral and short walk to La Ramblas but without all the La Ramblas noise. Walk to the tour bus lines and plenty of resturants and cafes. Room had no view so that was disappointing. Room was clean and housekeeping was very nice. This is a good hotel for the money. Free internet was a plus though you'll need a cable. The room was larger then other hotels I've had in Europe though the shower was a little small (acceptable though even for a guy who's well over 6 feet tall). The location was excellent. The proximity to Placa de Catalunya (which is a public transportation and tour bus hub), the Cathedral, the Ramblas and many, many other sites of interest made this hotel a fabulous choice. It is old world, though comfortable enough. The staff is helpful and English-speaking.

Location was great... easy to get to other sights and restaurants. Helpful and friendly staff. Was there during the Barcelona patron saint holiday (Merce), so it was noisy in the square. Only time you want to ask for a room in the back of the hotel for quiet, otherwise you will be up late! Only disappointment was that the wifi was spotty. The hotel was across from one of Gaudi's churches. The square was closed off to cars and open to walking tourists. There were lots of street performers performing in front of the hotel every night. The action was entertaining and fun, but unfortunately it never ended. Our roomn was on the second floor facing the street and the Church. The street performers […] tapped on their drums all night long and we did not get any sleep the first night. I finally called the front desk at 05:30 am and complained. they were very apologetic and told us that they have called the police and the city many times to complain about this group of uncoperative performers. The next day they moved us to the fifth floor facing the back street. the room was huge with a huge balcony. This hotel surely met every expectation: it was in the heart of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, rich with so much history from the times the Romans conquered and inhabited Spain. When you walk right out of the hotel, you are facing the Barcelona Cathedral and have restaurants and bars less than thirty seconds. The hotel itself feels very antiquated, but has the important features one needs: High speed internet (free of charge-you just need to bring the blue cable), safe and minibar. I would recommend anybody visiting Barcelona seeking a safe, comfortable and convenient location to stay at Hotel Colon. hotel was very good,good sized room with small balcony overlooking the square, cathedral directly opposite. good base for exploring Barca. However not suitable ofor disabled people. only access to reception from the street was via 7/8 steps or by stair lift via restaurant entrance. stair lift limited in size and would not fit electric scooter. however […] porters very willing to lift scooter up the stairs everytime we came in or went out. lifts also on the small size and had difficulty fitting the scooter into them. but would still reccommend the hotel and staff. lovely restaurant La Locano as you exit the hotel turn immediate left and walk up the side street approx 100 meters Läs mer

This hotel is in a perfect location especially for shopping and nightlife. The staff were very friendly and the hotel was very clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel and i would definitley stay here again.

The *perfect* location! The staff did its best to be helpful, especially Gregory. All spoke English and appreciated it when we *tried* a bit of Spanish. Super location for hotel, however room location was in the back facing another wall of the hotel. Front locations are by far better for the scenery.

I loved this hotel. For the price I could not believe the room, the look of the whole hotel, the amenities, and the service. The hotel has a very good location. Its right in the square with Seu Cathedral. There are also some good restaurants in the square. The rooms are a good size and air con was great especially for the hot weather. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
