utmärkt läge,dock mycket störande ljud från gatan restaurangen med frukost håller inte så hög standard,men i övrigt vänlig och kompetemt personal söker detta hotell vid nästa besök i Edinburgh

Detta hotellet ligger så centralt det bara kan bli, och visst trafiken brötar utanför om dagarna men om nätterna är det tyst. Om ni har rum mot gatan. ca 9,30 till 20,00 spelar souveniraffären nedanför fönstret SÄCKPIPA, alla möjliga cover- låtar! Sedan kanske man inte ska vara på hotellet om dagarna... De var lite kassa med dammsugningen bakom sängborden, […] hittade en och annan dammråtta när mobilen föll bakom... Kul när man är dammallergiker, komma till ett rum heltäckningsmatta, flera lager gardiner, och en säng som inte går att dammsuga under. Man kan ju tänka sig hur det såg ut under den sängen! Sedan är jag inte 100 % säker på om de bytte lakan och golvhandduk varje dag... Golvhandduken verkade ha samma fläck under hela vistelsen... Frukostbuffén var ok, lite stressad personal (fattar inte varför, det var inte så mycket att göra), de hade rostat bröd, marmelader, croissants, yoghurt, frukt, flingor, juice, kaffe, te, bönor i tomatsås, stekt ägg, äggröra, korv och någon form av oidentifierad blodpudding. Man kunde beställa in skinka, salami, manchego ost, och cheddar ost. Sista dagen var jag väldigt trött på marmelad, tänkte beställa in lite ost. Fick in ca 5 klossar på 8x3x3cm, säkert 300 g ost HA! Det var snällt iaf, synd att den inte var god. Deras "spa area" var ok, en ganska liten bassäng, torr- och ångbastu, liten bubbelpool, kändes lite gammalt. Kasst var dock att anläggningen som låg i källaren på hotellet, inte verkade ha någon kommunikation med hotellet. Vi trodde att man skulle få någon form av morgonrock av hotellet och gå ner i badkläder och tofflor, men tydligen skulle man byta om och duscha där. Jag duschade inte där iaf, det var mögel på delar av kaklet, nej tack! Fast man kanske inte kan jämföra Svensk standard med STB? I övrigt, då vi var där över Nyår, sålde hotellet Street Party biljetter till oss, och de var väldigt snällt för de var utsållda!! Mycket bra hotell!

Hotellet ligger mitt i gamla stan, nära till allt! Hotellets standard är inte samma som i Sverige utan något lägre (antalet stjärnor får tas med en nypa salt). Bra service, hjälpsam och lättillgänglig personal i receptionen.

The hotel has a great location right between old and new towns off the royal mile. The staff was very good and did their best to accommodate us for an early check-in after our international flight. The rooms are nice and a clean, and the hotel has all the amenities. My only complaint (and it's a small one) was that wireless internet access isn't included […] in the rooms. Lovely hotel great breakfast. Only downfall is the rooms are not very soundproof. The people in the room above was so noisy also even people walking pass could be heard.

The consiergue was extremely helpful when recommending restaurants and helping to get reservations even late at night, "he even walked us to the restaurant". Very handy location, in a city that you should not miss.

The Carleton is a very nice hotel. The rooms were nice (although dimly lit), bathrooms were nice and it is really convenient to everything in Edinburgh. My only complaint would be the upkeep of some of the common areas. If I ran the hotel I would change out the elevator interiors (they are worn, dirty and chipped) and I would get the crew from Marriott […] in to instruct on floor cleaning and the like (an example would be the grime/crid behing the doorstoops near the elevators on the 0 floor). I realize this sounds picky, but there are all sorts of similar spots in the gym (which is huge) and it discourages people like me from wanting to use other hotel services (restaurant for example). Unbelievable value for this hotel, the location was great and the quality and cleanliness of the hotel and staff was second to none, definately stay there again!

Great position, just off the Royal mile and easy walking distance to anywhere in the city centre. Staff friendly and very helpful. Good breakfast selection and quality ok. Worth a try.

Great location very central to tourist areas. Changing rooms in the leisure suite very grubby an in need of some money spent. Room nice and clean and more importantly comfortable.

we stayed in this hotel when we got married so wanted to stay here again.our room was nice but were asked to move because of a leaking pipe under our bath.we moved to a different room but the heating didnt work so our room was cold.breakfast was lovely with a large selection to choose from and the staff were friendly.

Perfect location across the road from Waverley station. Walk out of station onto Market Street exit, turn left and 50 metres up the road on the RHS there is a blue door which is the rear entrance to the hotel health club.You can then take the lift to the hotel reception. Hotel Reception very nice but bedroom dated and in need of an undate and lick of paint. Bathroom ok. Asked for double bed but was 2 single beds pushed together which kept moving apart. Breakfast nice, and plenty of choice but staff run off their feet and waited 15 minutes for coffee. Health club ok but swimming pool quite small and very cool. Sauna, steam room and jacuzzi nice. This was the fourth time I have stayed in this hotel. It is so central for the shops, theatre, historic landmarks - everything is within walking distance. The rooms, staff, and facilities are all superb. I will definately be back

1. thin - single glazed windows was making it impossible for me and my eldery mother to sleep. noise from outside was extremely awful from music from accross the street hotel, queue at taxi ranks, buses, police/ambulance cars in patrol, and people outside the hotel across from room 326 who gathered on regularly basis to go somewhere as a group (like […] pub crawl crowd as such) 2. toilet bin was full already/hasnt been cleaned/emptied 3. during breakfast, male waitress gave us a pot without top as he said he run out of ONE and he said that he will get us another pot if that one got cold soon. he never came back to check with us and I had to ask a female waitress to get us another one. the same male waitress gave a new pot to us but made a comment as to why we asked for another one if we had tea already on our cup as if he has forgotten about the missing pot top already. it's was a very poor customer service Läs mer

is in a great location, very well laid out and breakfast is excellent. However, plesae get the revolving front door and main entrance fixed and more importantly find some way of regulating the heating in the room. It was on constantly during my stay, it cannot be turned down or off, the air conditioning does not work effecively and its not an acceptable […] alternative to open the window onto a noisy street. Hotel has great location right on north bridge and has great looking reception ,however the room we had was small and not what I would have expected from the Barchelo brand name in terms of quality and maintainance ,room 442 had plaster coming off wall around window .damp stains around ceiling ,bath panel hanging off, no in room A/C or movies and no […] complementary wi-fi . Had a great stay at the Barcelo Carlton - all the staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly.. We had booked a Groupon Spa deal and had fantastic treatments, again all staff in the spa area were as welcoming, friendly and helpful as the rest of the hotel. Close to all the tourist sites in edinburgh, it is pretty noisy at night though & the window didn't close as tightly at night to block it out. This hotel is very central to everything in the wonderful city of Edinburgh. They are so polite & helpful at the reception desk. We asked to be moved from room 237 as the aircon vents were noisy during the night and they couldn't be more helpful. So we would recommend this hotel for your next stay in Edinburgh and we will be back.

Barcelo is in a great location. Easy walk to several locations. The hotel has a great ambiance and friendly staff. The room was comfortable and spacious. The breakfast buffet was a great way to start the day. And they make great hot chocolate!

The hotel was great and everyone that we met here was wonderful. The only down side was that the parking is not attached to the hotel so we were not sure where to go when we got into Edinburgh. My advise is to pull up in front of the hotel in the bus lane and run in and ask about the parking. Other then that it was a great hotel. very nice place to sta to see the Royal mile

Booked for one night only & all the staff were very pleasant. Asked to have a room change because didn't like the view and this was done poste haste. I would go back there again. Also the location was excellent for all the sights in Edinburgh.

This hotel is too pricey for what it offers it's shocking. The room is clean but the shower box needs the mould to be cleaned out. It's an old room in need of repairs and upgrade, for the price per room is a joke. They don't even offer a hair conditioner, a complimentary newspaper. It should have been clarified on the description that the car park is […] three blocks away and there is no park if one has a car arriving for check in. Located half a block off the Royal Mile and across the North Bridge from Waverley Station. Staff was friendly and helpful. Large comfortable room. Our room at the front of the hotel was noisy because of it's location on the street. If you want quiet, ask for a room in the back.

The hotel is not up to a 4* standard. The rooms are disgusting and are in need of a good clean, as does the rest of the hotel. The reception is the only nice thing about this hotel. Would not recommend this hotel.

Everything very satisfactory for our overnight stay but the directions to the car park proved impossible as we had to move our car from the Castle car park. Thought the concierge in particular should have had more information about the exact location.

Very close to the city center & the royal mile, excellent rooms. Don't bring a car if you can avoid it; no valet service & parking is extremely difficult.

My husband and I arrived for a 2 night stay. We have stayed several times at hotels in Edinburgh as our son has been completing a 5 year degree at the University of Edinburgh but it was our first time at the Carlton. Hotel very central- good location next to the Royal Mile.We were given a room on the 3rd floor- certainly large enough but a bit dated, […] furniture included! We were facing the main street which was very busy and realised we were overlooked by the rooms from the building opposite with not a net cutain in sight- very exposed. We weren't too happy about this but decided that for 2 nights we would put up with it and make sure we were always decent! However, we had a dreadful night's sleep-so noisy from the late night revellers,very early morning loading and traffic that we decided to ask for a room change. We were upgraded to a larger room on the top (5th) floor with wonderful seaviews and no noise- a great night's sleep followed.(still very dated room though!) Must mention that there are fans in the room because they do get hot, even though there is a rather noisy aircon system. A safe was also available for valuables and a rather luke warm fridge. Breakfast was barely warm on both mornings regardless of our breakfast times (8.00am and 9.30am respectively)- with little choice of fruit, no flora-just butter and badly cooked items (undercooked sausage, slimy eggs, overcooked baked beans,tasteless bacon and greasy black pudding). There is a bar which we visited on one night- it was ok, not a great atmosphere! The drinks were expensive but that's the norm for Edinburgh hotels so we expected it! We didn't visit or make use of the Spa facilities so we can't comment. The hotel's car parking facility is good, very secure and not too far to walk,although £15.50 per night. We found the hotel staff to be very pleasant and any requests (eg. ice bucket and champagne glasses )were dealt with efficiently) This could be a wonderful hotel if given a complete refurbishment a Läs mer

What were the reviewers thinking that rated this place highly?? It is literally RIGHT on top of the train station. The trains go under the hotel - It is LOUD. The bed is uncomfortable and the room is too hot, even with the windows open. The concierge staff were unhelpful and barely spoke English. The sole positive experience here is the location. The hotel location is ideal for seeing the Royal mile of Edinburgh. The hotel is clean but worn. The entry is very nice but the hotel floors show worn carpet and an overall updating would be beneficial. The staff would clean up around you while eating breakfast which rushed us through a good breakfast, they seemed helpful for the most part some very […] others not. Perfect location!

Were able to get a very reasonable rate on this excellent hotel next to the Royal Mile in the center of beautiful Edinburgh. The hotel rooms were clean and spacious and there is a very nice restaurant and bar, but there are so many options available within easy walking distance it is hard to stay in the hotel. Room was very dark .......also could do with more sockets nearer mirrors where you can see to apply make up etc We had booked a double room but were given a twin. Buffet breakfast food was warm but not hot which was a bit off putting and our tea pot for two people only had one teabag in it

1) great location 2) need exact direction from train station 3) all bronze hair counter ladies staff service were good. except 1 dark hair lady i find her quite stern & rude.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, extremely spacious rooms, exceptionally comfy bed

This hotel is in a great location for the trains, buses and walking to sightsee. The hotel is very nice and the staff was friendly. They let us store our bags when we arrived early. We would stay again.

That's where it ends obviously a once special hotel now getting very tired.Room very warm great in winter not in hottest April on record air con barely operating opening windows didn't help much although 2am drunken serenade quite tuneful if somewhat annoying having just managed to reduce the heat enough to fall asleep.Stayed in hotel for meal food […] ok edible nothing special if staying for another night would ask the excellent concierge for decent restaurant in area,the waiting staff helpful when they felt like it ,at breakfast with one exception staff were surly and generally miserable as all they had to do was serve coffee or tea this could not be through overwork,quality of food at breakfast would best be described as economy also self service and frazzled under lights. Secure parking is supplied by the council half a mile away at £18:00 for 24 hrs inconvenient and expensive if able bodied as myself and my wife are disabled very uncomfortable and inconvenient and nigh on impossible to park car and get back to hotel in under half an hour. Had a very nice stay, excellent location and staff were very helpful. Only downside was that our room was very hot and we couldn't get it cooler even with a fan which the hotel gave us. I am sure it's fine in the winter but too hot during the weather for our stay 15th -17th April 2011.

A high standard hotel right in the city centre. The staff were extremely helpful when we turned up at a ridiculous hour after a long drive from Rugby. Our room was very comfortable with all the facilities and cleanliness you would expect for a hotel of this standard. Breakfast the next morning was five star, all adding up to the perfect start to our […] holiday. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!
