This hotel was excellent for the prices. Ir is close to KU, has excellent rooms, a decent work-out room, however the pool is small. They were redoing their hot tub, painting and using expoxy. The fumes were intense and really bothered my sinus problem. Last time I was in Lawrence, I stayed in the Best Western Hotel at 23rd & Iowa. This time, I stayed at the Baymont Inn and I COMPLETELY REGRETTED THIS DECISION. The room we got was absolutely disgusting. There was gum stuck on the carpet between the 2 beds so I had to beware not to step in it, there were cigarette burns in various places, there was […] only 1/2 roll of toilet paper left in the bathroom, there was what looked to be spit on the wall, and finally, the remote control for the tv didn't work. The hotel was painting the hot tub when we arrived and the entire building smelled like paint or turpentine or some kind of very strong chemical smell. When I asked the manager why it was being done on a weekend and a home game night for the Jayhawks, he couldn't give me a good answer. Hotel seemed totally empty when we arrived, not very busy. Staff seemed a bit bored. When we first got to our room, it seemed to have a funny smell. Maybe hadn't been used for awhile. The Baymmont in Lawrence, KS, was perfect for my needs. It is the perfect spot if you are going to Lawrence to visit KU or drop off your child. "Nice place and a good nights sleep."
My pleasant experience here might have been a bit colored by the nightmare place I stayed in the night before :) Friendly staff, nice room. Loved the pool although small, it was gently heated. The sauna was a little weak on the jets for my bad back and neck, but ok. Everything was very clean. I do think the 10 pm close time is kind of early, most places […] I have stayed have an 11 pm close. Which is nice for right before bedtime relaxation. Room was quiet and so comfortable! Nice tv, wifi was ok, nice furnishings. Bedding and towels were fine. I smoke but chose a non smoking room to get away from the icky stuff! Found several areas to smoke outside. Would suggest adding a few more ashtrays near a couple of benches. yes the bathroom is small but there is adequate toiletry space. And, what they have done is to use some space to create an appliance cubby, which is such a great idea! The coffee machine, microwave, ice bucket and frig are all in the same space. Loved it! So all food stuff is right there and away from luggage, clothing, electronics and the bathroom. Such a good idea, I wish more hotels did it this way! Also, the room itself, I had a "suite" with a couch, was very spacious so I didn't mind the small bathroom at all. Did not do the breakfast but the area looked lovely. Also a very attractive and usable lobby area. Lots of food places nearby as well as shopping. The bed and the bedding were quite nice, towels were good. Toiletries kind of skimpy though. For my purposes the hotel was just right. My son and I were visiting KU and just needed the room for about 10 hrs to sleep, clean up and and have some juice/coffee. I would give the room and service a 5 but for the musty smell in the room and the water pouring in through the roof in the hotel entrance.
