The look of the hotel from the outside, was at first sight nice and clean, and perceived as modern. But after a while, it was too strange and artificial. Monorails and a boat (also on rails under water) to get from one place to another (when the walk was only 7 minutes). Dolphin quest consisted of a tiny, shallow pool where dolphins were closed in with […] little room to swim in. There is no natural beach, you can't go into the ocean. A man-made lagoon with man-made sand is found in the center of the area. It was very dissapointing.The service and the cleaning left something to wish for. Also, the room decor was out of date, it looked as if the hotel had not been renovated since the 1970's. We ended up spending most of the time away from the resort, visiting the natural beaches that are only a few minutes drive away. If we would visit the Big Island again, we would not be spending our money on this Hilton Village, since there are several other hotels that provide beach-access close by. Läs mer

The premises were outstanding! All the staff appeared interested in helping you enjoy your vacation. Only one guy in pizza restaurant ripped of my change. A negative - the drinks were too watery and the Lau Awo (SP?) was an overpriced disappointment. The entertainment was what saved the evening from having people ask for their cash back.

Just spent 3 days and nights here after seeing it on the travel channel. This is the best resort I have ever stayed at. Not only is it as good as advertised, but the customer service was outstanding (can't say the same about the Hilton in Waikiki ). The tram makes it very easy to get around. The lagoon lets you swim in ocean water without worrying about […] anything eating you. The luau is exceptionally entertaining, especially after dinner when they start twirling fire around. We really enjoyed staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village with our 20-month-old daughter. The enclosed, ocean-fed lagoon is a great place for a toddler to splash around (with supervision, of course) and snorkeling is fantastic with lots of different fish to see. The Hilton Waikoloa village is ideal for a family, especially one with small children. The lagoon provides a wonderful environment for snorkeling in ocean water that is still safe and "managed" as part of the resort. Very pretty hotel but so big and manicured it kind of feels like you're at disneyworld more than in hawaii. You can take a tram around the grounds or do a long walk. Such a long walk to get out of the hotel so its easier to eat at one of the hotels restaurants, but the food was very disappointing. Very huge hotel and nice. Sort of like a Disnelyland for resorts. Restaurants and drinks etc... are extremely expensive but amenities are pretty much unbeatable for a resort. It has to be the nicest hotel on the Big Island and this is coming from a sane person!

Reviews;you cannot believe everything you read on the internet! Complaints about the Birds, to him I say, stay home! The Minah birds enthustically announce the sunrise & sunset daily. The resort has everything you could ask for except available food. What is much worse is the uncontrolled children running around everywhere. Noisy children everywhere! […] Much worse than the birds. Complaint;they could not see the ocean. Yes if you buy an OceanFRONT room it is right there! Very close & unobstructed. There are Gardenviews, Lagoonviews & partial Oceanviews more available @ a better price. It is beautiful! The lagoon is totally awesome! Where else can you & your family safely swim with dolphins, turtles & marine animals. They have over 40 varities of birds & animals on the 35 acre resort. There is some distance to cover but they have a riverboat & a tram to carry you from one end to the other.My only complaints;front desk & restrauants. We asked to extend 2 days & they refused. Not only refused a long time Hilton Honors client (since they began HiltonHonors!) but refused to advise us as to where we could get a room for the following 2 nights. All hotels/resorts keep a few rooms open for such occurances. And most will help you get in elsewhere. They basically put us out on foot after spending thousands $$$ to stay there. Was expecting a resort property run as a hotel. We got something closer to the Disney World experience. Parking was additional $17 per day and you had to park in a remote lot. TV and WiFi were another $25 per day (mandatory) with "free DVD movies" - big deal! These rip off add on charges were not disclosed at the time of booking. Property was designed […] to isolate you in their environment and then charge for everything at quite high prices - $32 for a pizza big enough for 2 maybe 3 people. The hotel is a major resort on the West Coast of the Big Island. If you are looking for a resort setting, this is a very nice hotel. If not, this hotel is difficult to navigate due to its large size (one must take a train or boat to get from the front lobby to the buildings that house the guest rooms). The location makes it difficult to visit shops or restaurants outside of the hotel that maybe cheaper - forcing the guest to pay the high prices presented at the hotel for items. Rooms were not as sound insulated as one would expect and one could hear guests in neighboring rooms and passing in the hall. Luckily, the hotel seems to cater to families, so the hotel was quiet at night when few people were up. Staff were adequate in their service, but not friendly or very helpful. They would perform their duties to the letter of what was expected, but did not make the guest feel as if they were welcome or anything more than just another number and a mandatory part of having a job with the hotel. Beautiful resort, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are several pools, one specifically for adults. We never found any of the pools or beaches to be too crowded and were able to find seating easily. It's a very large resort, so a bit confusing to get around until you are more familiar with the lay out.

This is a beautiful destination resort - however, there were three issues for us: the resort is so large that it takes a long time to get back an forth to your room, it is very windy on this part of the island - made it not as conducive to sitting out or swimming - and it is almost an hour's drive away from the downtown Kona area.

A bit torn on the review for this hotel. The grounds and overall upkeep of the hotel is excellent. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The AC vents (we had two rooms--the first had a "musty" smell, the second was grand) in both rooms were filthy, which indicates a lack of attention to detail. This is a resort hotel, so you will never need to leave […] the grounds if that is something you are interested in doing. However, they charge you for nearly everything, including Wi-Fi (albeit they do have some public areas where you can sign in), and the shuttle back and forth to the shopping on site. The restaurants are quite expensive, e.g. breakfast is $30 per person, and it can easily cost a couple upwards of $100+ for dinner. It is spread out over some 60 acres and to get from one place to another is very difficult for those who are not yet in a wheel chair but have difficulty walking. Wonderful hotel. Certainly large and a pricey place to stay but totally worth it! The hotel has beautiful views of the ocean- a totally "worth it" up-grade in hotel rooms. Make sure you are prepared for the costs of Everything in this resort- dinner for 5 was $180, breakfast buffet was over $100 for family of five. afternoon drinks were $50 by the lagoon, […] and stand up paddle boarding was $50 for an hour. Even a garden view room, in addition to a great gold course view had a silver of ocean. Kids loved the breakfast buffet, water slides, and the macaws placed throughout the hotel. I loved the art and the long pathways to walk along the ocean and the many places to sit or enjoy nature. Best of all was the lagoon- feeds directly to the ocean and has fish, sea turtles, and even an eel that wandered in. Shallow water not more than 6 - 8 feet feet at the deepest part and a perfectly clear, perfect conditions for snorkeling and swimming with the fish. Ocean water waterfall incredible, and the sandy shoreline with plentiful reclining chairs and bar service means after paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming... You can be delivered something delicious to your parched lips. We didnt go, but they also have Swimming with dolphins on site- I walked by and watched for a while. I would recommend this hotel for those truly looking for a resort. Otherwise you may feel trapped by the enormity of the place. They run special deals to try to get people to eat on site which can be helpful. As someone who wanted to do other things in the area, it was a challenge to plan ahead for the 20 plus minutes it took to walk from my room to […] my car (and I walk quickly). I guess this is to be expected at a 62,000 acre resort (that is what their materials said) but a bit challenging. Despite all that, I could not ind a pool towel at 9pm when the pool is open until 11pm and it took 15 minutes of hunting around with a poor staffer to find said towel. The resort fee of $25 does not really cover anything besides Internet access and they make you pay it. Another $17 for self parking on top of what is already a $200 plus room seems unwarranted. Also, at least if you stay in the Ocean Tower, the birds joyfully announce the sunrise- usually before 6am at least in February- and the rooms are not soundproofed. Läs mer

After checking in, our luggage took almost an hour to be delivered to our room. When finally delivered, he noticed the deadbolt on our door had fallen off (it was on the ground outside the room)so we had no 2nd lock. There was a gap under the door and since the doors to all the rooms open directly to the outside, you can hear everything! We were woken […] up at 4am by about 1000 birds going crazy out in the courtyard. Other guests were complaining about this as well-it was ridiculous! The room was shabby and rundown; linen was clean and bed was nice, but we were unimpressed with everything. This continues to the restaurant service. We ate at an outdoor place by the dolphins and our waitress was horrible! Nobody came for over 20min, my husband finally went to the bar to ask for service. We ordered, then never saw our waitress again until the end. Someone else brought our food, we had to track down a different waitress for water, and finally after waiting for forever for the bill, our waitress came by with it, all smiley and chipper. Terrible service for so-so food. On the morning of our checkout we called for assistance with our luggage and were told someone would be there in 10min...after waiting 35 min (no joke!) we finally hauled it down ourselves, and happily checked out of this hotel. The rooms were a bit dated and could use a little facelift and the food could bankrupt you if you don't watch your money. That being said, it is a great place for families. Once we figured out that everyone bought their meals from the local market and ate in their rooms to save money, we were much happier!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at the resort. Beautiful grounds and we loved all the different sculptures, statues, artwork and museum pieces everywhere you looked. We snorkeled everyday in the lagoon which is ideal for beginners or children. So many turtles in the water swimming along with you, it was great! So many places to sit and watch […] amazing sunsets. We never had a bad meal, all the food was very good. We had just a few issues, such as very long waits in the lobby to sign up for things, not enough staff perhaps? Also, we hated having to pay a 25$ resort fee every day, for what? Free Internet and DVD rentals? We don't mind paying a higher rate for resorts, especially this one which had so much to offer but an additional daily resort fee on top of the room rate and very high rates for anything offered at the resort, renting kayaks, paddle boats, swimming with the dolphins etc.... The resturants are also extremely expensive, breakfast prices were ridiculous. We went to Costco and bought cereal and milk and lots of snacks which worked out great! Based on Expedia reviews and reviews at other travel sites, we knew this wasn't going to be the Four Seasons -- but it was perfect for our kids, both the 3 year old and the 13 year old. Waterslides, sea turtles, salt-water lagoon with paddleboats and snorkeling, mini-golf, motorized trams, waterfalls, dolphins, pretty good pizza, free PS3 and Blu-Ray […] rentals, etc. -- what's not to love? The rooms were indeed a bit dated, and the property itself isn't always in tip-top shape (including garbage floating in the waterways, etc.). And as others have said, the restaurants are a rip-off and not always high quality. But hey, you're a tourist in Hawaii! Overall, this place offered a fantastic family getaway. Hotel has a lot to offer for families with kids. We used valet parking to save some time, still the commute from lobby to room can easily be 20 min, mostly waiting for train or boat.
