Nice facility, but bad everything else. Rose, the manager, is not interested in making customers happy and cannot staff a hotel well. The restaurant is entirely understaffed but the employees try really hard to do their best. We thought breakfast was free after calling ahead and speaking with someone at the front desk. The person who filled in didn't […] tell us there is only a $20 credit each day and only kids 12 and under eat free. Didn't work out well since we had 2 teenagers. I would've rather stayed somewhere else that was properly staffed and that the staff was happy than having to deal with the manager who treated me like I was a liar, and wouldn't do anything to accomodate. Sofa bed was very uncomfortable, very difficult to get enough linens to make the bed properly. i heard the manager tell an employee to only give a room half the washcloths they had asked for because she thought it was an excessive request...the list goes on. This hotel was very good if one needed to be in the area for a business purpose, or for a limited stay as a getaway. The surrounding neighborhood is basically isolated, with Route 14 ahead lined with strip malls and restaurants. My room, however, was exceptionally clean and very functional. The hotel is showing its age. Rooms smelled like they were old and NOT fresh. Shower head would not work properly and spilled half the water down the drain not into the spray. The towel bar was in poor repair. All things that the daily maid service should have found. Mattresses were lumpy. The positive: The prepaid breakfast was very good with a buffet […] on weekend. We like our room, but never received cleaning, towel or other daily services. We did not know when we booked our 4 day/3 night stay that the gift shop would never be open, the restaurant would be closed most of the time and there were very few people working to give any sort of service, like pool towels or cleaning our room. We not once had any one […] come to our door to clean the room, change towels, empty the garbage or make the bed. We will not be staying here again. The pool was nice, however and the skeleton staff that was working was excellent. Yes, I understand that the occupance was low, but there are still guests at the hotel that deserve the same experience at other times of the year.... we paid the same rate! Läs mer

The staff at Crystal Lake is always so kind and accommodating, and they were just as kind during this last stay. We will probably always stay with them when we come up to see our grandchildren!

We wanted to get away from the mayhem of fireworks at the Chicago lakefront parks on the 4th of July. The Crystal Lake Holiday Inn was the perfect sanctuary.

Service and staff was helpful and friendly. Room was small and expensive (executive suite). The mattress on the bed was very worn and had zero support, and dipped in the middle. The couch was the exact same way. The mini fridge had also not been cleaned or emptied. When I told the staff at checkout I was unable to sleep and the condition of the room, […] I was told "aww sorry", and offered no discount or compensation. The room was very clean and the King bed was comfortable. The breakfast service and food was excellent. The only suggestion would to sanitize sheets without having the lingering smell of bleach.

The only things I would suggest is to put in a hot tub along with the pool, and some of the rooms that we have stayed in look like they could use some updating. A couple of the rooms have a litttle bit of peeling wallpaper, and in some places the carpet is puckered up in more common areas, but overall we really like this hotel!! These couple of things […] are not that bad!! The beds are a lot more comfortable than most other hotels that I have stayed at. I have chronic back problems and have a hard time finding a hotel with beds that don't cause me alot of pain! I will be staying at this hotel every time we come to town!!! Läs mer

Very nice Holiday Inn. One of the nicest I've stayed at in recent memory. The room was clean and spacious. I loved the fact that they "strap labled" their pillows with SOFT and FIRM on the bed. Touches like these make your stay more pleasnt. I didn't get to the pool to swim but it looked grand. I had a great stay for the wedding I was attending.

I went in not expecting much but this was a nice hotel. Breakfast was not included. It was clean and spacious. We reserved a King bed and it happened to have a couch and table also. Whenever I visit Crystal Lake, I will likely stay here.

THe hotel is nice enough, my biggest complaint is that smokers smoke at the entrance to the hotel. It gets quite smokey even though it is outside. It ruins the first impression of the hotel for non smokers.
