Hotell Golden Chain Resort Motel - Grass Valley

Suited my needs

A nice to stay on the way to Tahoe that is not right next to the I 80. Nothing special but it's safe and the staff is friendly.

Clean, reasonably quiet, pleasant staff. Lodging is so expensive here that you could easily get a nicer room AND breakfast in most major cities for about $30 less. That said, our stay was quite adequate and comfortable for our needs.

This is an old fashioned motel in a glorious setting, with a lovely old outdoor pool and a covered bridge near by. We felt welcomed and comfortable.

1. The place is severely under-maintained; it needs a lot of work. 2. The WIFI only works in one part of the hotel. 3. It's next to a busy highway and the noise level is high. 4. The continental breakfast is pitiful; very few selections are available.

Didn't realize from booking how far out of town this motel was......nothing within walking distance. Was given a smoking room even though all rooms were non-smoking but manager immediately gave us a new room ~ booked a queen but was given a king replacement. Motel is old but clean. Our room was reasonably clean and the beds were comfortable. Seemed like a safe area. The desk clerk was friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a place just to lay your head for the night then the Golden Chain is a pretty good value for the money. Sorry to say, but this motel was way below par and not representative of it's online photos. First off, it's NOT a "resort." Second, the outside of the motel has fallen in disrepair. Simple maintenance is overlooked. The wall air conditioner/heater combo did not heat the room AT ALL and no extra blankets were provided. The shower lost hot water after […] an initial use. "Resort" may be stretching it, but this was an adequate motel at a very reasonable price, especially considering what the competition down the road wanted. It was convenient for my purposes right off Hwy 49. I didn't see the pool because it was winter. The hotel is showing its age, but everything was in working order and clean. We stayed at Golden Chain 4th of July as most places were booked, price was good, & I had stayed here before. This place is definitely no frills & somewhat outdated, but it was clean & the family running it were very nice. Didn't use the pool, but it was very clean & nice looking. The buildings were old but did look like the picture. The interior of the buildings and rooms were very neat and clean. The rooms looked like thay had just finished being remodeled. When we checked out the cost of the stay was less than quoted. We were pleasently surprised and would stay there again. This hotel is a good value.

Clean rooms, nice area. About 2-5 mi. from downtown Grass Valley. Our stay was pleasant and the hotel was nice.
