Hotell Sofitel Karnak Luxor - Luxor

Would have been a perfect vacation in a very relaxing setting by the Nile, but it was 100 degrees outside and my ac didn't work. It took three requests to have my room changed.

Overall, it is an average hotel. Although, it is located on Nile River. There is no Nile view rooms!! Hotel design is poor and didn't use the prime location on very nice seen on Nile River. This hotel is a destination in itself. Plenty of food options, the buffet each night was good, but not amazing. The hotel had lots of amenities, a beautiful setting and plenty to do and see. The room was great, very comfortable and clean. The best thing about the hotel is its quiet location by the Nile, far from the noise at the center of town - a good place to sit and stare at the view and read a book. The sunsets are fantastic! On the downside, the food selection is disappointing, and some of the wait staff are sleazy, too obviously trying […] to chat up the female guests. Another annoyance is the horde of taxi drivers outside the front gate of the property, fighting like a pack of dogs for every fare into town. An enjoyable stay and stafffriendly. Trainee staff not as attentive as one might expect - three requests for adaptor! But good breakfast, great grounds and the free boat service to Luxor is a great extra.

Good hotel, reasonable price . Very helpful and efficient staff. Superb views of the Nile. Food could have been better, given the prices charged. I did not like some of the food at all. A bit out of town for some, but that suited us, and the free boat and shuttle bus, though infrequent, helped. Taxis are cheap in Egypt in any case. Food not spectacular but not bad either, and the buffet for the "Egyptian Night" was very good. Good pool, plus another for children and one for infants. Room comfortable, but lacked tea-making facilities […] and the TV was a bit naff. I have stayed in a few hotels in Luxor and this is somewhere in the middle in terms of quality and price. Nice hotel with gardens. Not a beautiful as Jollie Ville gardens and views of the Nile take in quite a few electricity pylons. No complaints about anything except swimming pool a little cold. Quite a long way out of Luxor but taxis into town cost […] about £2 or £3 and are always available. Free boat a lovely way into town, lots of birds to be seen along the river banks, but only goes 3 times a day. The boat is met by Calesh drivers who tell you they know you from your hotel, which they don't, they"ve just seen you get off the boat. You need to be very firm with them.they will also tell you that the souk is closed and they can take you somewhere thats open where they get a commission. I only had breakfast an a couple of lunches as the hotel which were fine. Prices for food in this hotel and all others in Luxor are much higher than the local restaurants. Läs mer

Staff very friendly. Beyond that, the hotel was dismal. Dark outdated room with a light bulb out and a shade that looked as if someone sat on it. As has been our experience with the Sofitel chain: hard beds, only shampoo (no conditioner) and body soap - none of the other little luxuries most chains provide. When you book a Sofitel property you expect that the property will be of a certain standard, however, this place was more like a glorified hostel. The lobby and restaurant were dirty, our room had blood on the carpet, the bed lines were old and dirty and the bathrooms had mold in the shower. We are very experienced travelers and have stayed in many […] hostels to 5 star properties, and it is all about expectations. If this place was a rated as a hostel, we would have been happy, but if you are expecting a Sofitel - DO NOT STAY HERE. Sofitel should get their name off this property, it will ruin their brand, and at this point I would be very cautious to ever book at a Sofitel again, but if you want a Sofitel - the Winter Palace in Luxor is much more along the lines of what you would expect from a Sofitel. We met a great cabbie who helped us tremendously in our explorations. And see the sites we did. Started our day very early to avoid some of the heat. Poolside by 2pm and relaxing. The hotel does need to change up the breakfast menu as it was the same daily. As for night life...they need to work on that aspect. L'hôtel est sur le bord du Nil avec service de navette gratuit par bus ou bâteau vers le centre-ville (10-15 min): un gros plus! Les courts de tennis sont beaux, il y a 2 saunas et 2 tourbillons et la grande piscine superbe. Tout ça est gratuit. Le buffet déjeuner (compris) est excellent et le resto à la carte, près du Nil, également. Le problème c'est […] les chambres: affreuses en format standar (minuscules) avec frigo défectueux et toilette qui fuit. Mais nous nous sommes plaints et avons eu une chambre au 2e: beaucoup mieux mais vraiment pas un 5 étoiles avec ses 2 petits lits simples, une vieille télé et une salle de bain des années 70.
