Hotell Hotel Holt - Reykjavik

Stannar ofta i Reykjavik och provar olika hotell under några nätter. Väljer hotell efter stjärnbeteckningen, läget och gästernas åsikter. Hotell Holt lever inte upp till de fyra stjärnor det stoltserar med. - Hotellet kanske var fräscht för 20 år sedan; nu är det precis tvärtom. Ett fyrstjärnigt hotell måste framför allt satsa på rummen och sovstandarden. […] Mitt enkelrum var ett ca 10 kvadratmeter stort skyffe med en smal sängbotten i ett hörn med lutande madrass och håliga, fläckade lakan som borde ha kastats länge sedan. Rummet saknade den lovade vattenkokaren och radion fungerade inte. TV visade få utländska kanaler, tex ingen riktig nyhetskanal på engelska. Vidare står det i hotellets beskrivning om att det finns både handdush och takdusch, dock fungerade de bara tillsammans, icke var för sig. Det fattades också läslampa för sängen. Halva rummet fylldes med en jättestor , gammal och sliten, på köpet obekväm läderfåtölj. Hotellet skulle vara en rökfri fastighet men tydligen används reservutgången som fritt rökutrymme. Samma gäller den gemensamma balkongen. Hotellet var också lyhört. Frukosten var en smaklös upplevelse med bl.a kalla kokta egg varje morgon, dåligt skött, tidvis rådde kaos på grund av brist på personal. De stora umgängesytorna fyllda med utsökt fin konst kan ej kompensera ovannämnda brister. Ej heller den påtvingade vänligheten från personalens sida. Restaurangen ej prisvärt trots vacker inredning. Som helhet är hotellet överreklamerat, det finns bättre alternativ i samma prisklass. Och - sevicen är vänlig överallt i Island. Läs mer

The Hotel Holt was excellent. Easy walking to all the city sights, retaurants, bars and shopping. Excellent restaurant and bar in the hotel and friendly and very helpful staff . If returning to Iceland I would definitly stay again at the Holt. Iceland is AMAZING!

Everything was wonderful. Even before our stay, I chatted online with the hotel manager, Snorri. He was fantastic and gave me a lot of wonderful information. The day we arrived it was 7 am and our room would not be ready for an hour. They gave us the fantastic breakfast buffet complimentary. The room was quiet and location was perfect. The hotel is not very appealing from the outside, but beautifully old school inside. Very atmospheric and original art everywhere. Cosy bar complete with fireplace. Room was functional, but more than adequate. Positioned in a residential part of Reykjavik away from the busy main streets, but only five minutes walk away. Great spot. The wifi in my room […] was weak or sometimes not there at all. I told the people on reception (who were invariably friendly and helpful) and they said they would look into it. A very good stay! Set in a quiet residential area of Reykjavik, our room was on the 4th floor with a panoramic view of the city. This meant we had a grandstand view of the Northern Lights each evening. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, toothpaste included, not noisy outside (in February at least). Other than the usual rather low funky sounds from the walls / neighbouring rooms there was very much nothing to complain about. Two smaller car parks belonging to the hotel nearby and free parking at the side of the street in front of it.

Very much enjoyed my stay. It was close to Hallgrimskirkja and further northwest you had the cool/trendy bars etc. Quiet street with a nice bakery only 2 min walk away in case you don't get breakfast there, otherwise food in the restaurant is good, if not a little pricy. Booked this Hotel from the reviews on this site and was not disappointed. It is a lovely comfy hotel with a real charm of its own. The room (junior suite) was well appointed with a balcony and great views over Reykjavik. Close to all the restaurants, bars and sights. It is situated down a quiet residential street a five minute walk from the city centre. […] The bar was cosy and always the right place to finish the evening with a nightcap. Could'nt speak highly enough of the staff, all were friendly and helpful with excellent customer service. From advising on eating/drinking venues to keeping a packed lunch in their fridge overnight ready for an early start the next day. The manager Snorri even helped arrange a sightseeing flight before we had even arrived. Iceland is a great place to visit and our stay at the Hotel Holt added to what was a great experience. My wife and I have had a wonderful stay at The Holt Hotel. The whole place was full of character and charm. The staff were all very helpful which made our stay very memorable for us. We had breakfast every morning with a choice to please most. We also had a wonderful meal with wine in the restaurant, which I can honestly say was the best I've ever tasted. […] Martin, our waiter, was most attentive and not a detail was missed. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to anyone looking for a Hotel with what I would call a soul, and it became part of the whole experience of staying in Iceland. My husband and I have just returned from 8 days in Iceland staying at Hotel Holt. We both felt that the hotel was fantastic and that staying here was a major part of a great "Iceland experience". We particularly enjoyed the art work (ask to see the book behind the desk which has a couple of chapters in English in it) - to be able to see major Iceland […] artists like Kjarval hanging in the bar and restaurant each day was fantastic, and folk art of Icelandic landscapes in the bedrooms and public areas certainly makes a nice change from the usual ikea type stuff you get! I was pregnant and the hotel restaurant and bar were really accommodating and helpful regarding food. Reception were very informative regarding tours, booking them and pointing out discount vouchers that we might not otherwise have seen. Breakfast was fine - plenty of choice etc - I have to be honest and say we only ate it once as it was not included in our room rate and we tended to prefer a cafe 5 minutes walk away - thereby saving our money for dinner in the restaurant which was exceptional! it was a great find! not only was the hotel beautiful, we loved the warm feeling of it. the staff was incredibly kind and helpful, as well. we ended up arriving very early - more than 8 hours before checking, and the gentleman at the desk not only offered us complimentary breakfast, but had a room ready for us within a couple of hours. it was a wonderful […] welcome and great way to start our trip! we were there for a full week in one of their suites, which was spacious and comfortable enough to call 'home'. when we go back, we will definitely stay here. This was my first visit to Iceland, and I picked Hotel Holt based on price and location. After an overnight flight, the hotel staff graciously accommodated my early check-in and were helpful in many ways. My room was very quiet, clean and comfortable. Absolutely no complaints there. The buffet breakfast was wonderful. It was exactly the same every morning, but since it was my favorite things, I was satisfied. The associated restaurant, the Gallery, was wonderful. I ate about half my meals there, which is unusual for me to do while traveling. I will review it separately. Regarding the smell of the water - this is typical of Icelandic hot water, which is geothermal in source. It has a very slight sulfurous nose, but I became used to it in just a few days. Läs mer

This was a great place to stay. It is quiet and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's an easy walk to all the things you'd like to see in Reykjavik and it's also around the corner from the bus station. The one bummer was that the wireless signal was not very strong in my room - almost non-existent. So, I had to use my laptop in the bar […] or the lobby where it worked great. The Holt is just a couple of minutes from the centre but not too close to the famously noisy nightlife if you want some peace and quiet. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms were comfortable and well maintained.

My husband and I stayed one night before our flight back home. There are two things I would recommend bringing with you, ear plugs and an eye shade. I would note that the main issues I had with this hotel are more a product of the city and not necessarily their specific property. In the Summer, you keep some windows open to allow air in, unfortunately […] it also allows all of the street noise in and this is a VERY late town with the last bars closing at 5:00 am. Unfortunately, there was no fan to create any sort of white noise to drown it out. The other issue is in order to block the evening light, you have to close your shades, thereby blocking air flow so it gets a bit hot.The hotel itself was a bit dated but had some charm to it and the front desk clerk was very helpful. Again, I would just suggest brining an eye shade and ear plugs with you, unless of course you will be out with everyone until 5:00 am. Läs mer

I would say overall I enjoyed my stay. I did not eat at the restaurant however I thought everything else was nice; breakfast was above average for Europe and I thought the staff was nice. The room was a little small but I didn't order deluxe.

All of the staff at Hotel Holt were incredibly helpful, recommending and booking excursions and even advising on the need to use conditioner in your hair at the Blue Lagoon to avoid it frazzling.
