Ms Jennifer was most hospitable and helpful. We felt more like we were visiting family than staying at a hotel. Many of the ingredients of the native dishes were picked fresh from the yard. We were a bit skeptical when we first arrived at Emerald View Resort Villa, because the view of the property looks slightly different than what is seen on the Villa’s website. Just got back from a quick MBJ getaway. When we go international, we try to stay with local properties wherever we can. It gives us a much better feel for our destination and allows us live like the locals live. We have also met many great hosts as well as guests over the years. First thing you need to know about Emerald View is that it is an expensive […] ride from the airiport. @ $35 each way. The property itself is nice. I had one of the smaller rooms with AC. My room and bathroom were spotless with a nice view of the hillside. You will want the AC option and I rarely say this. The view from the property down to Montego Bay is very pretty and you can watch the cruise ships sail by. There is a small pool on premise but it needs to be cleaned more frequently. The website is a bit misleading about the 12 min walk to the most beautiful beach in Jamaica. It is quite a bit more than that and it is not a beach. Where the hotel van takes you is Chll Out bar which is located on a mangrove estuary. You can get in the water but you are not going to like it. The bottom is very soft and hard to walk on without constantly sinking. . I will say that Bernice at Chill Out makes quite possibly one of the best and most lethal rum punches in this hemisphere!! . There is not really any walking into town for food or shopping. They will run you in the van if there is somebody available. Montego Bay and the Hip Strip are a $25 R/T per person. Läs mer

The hotel was a long way away from the Airport, about 25 min ride. It was out of the way off the main Street. The building looked old and delapidated on first appearance. The inside of the villa looked clean but was very dark and scary. It was not very inviting. There were very tiny bugs in the room on the floor of the bathroom and I was told by my […] daughter that they were also on the bed. There was no hot water in the bathroom faucet and the Air conditioner did not work, at least it did not cool the room. In the end we moved from the Hotel the 1st night. I am originally from the island of Jamaica. I have not been back since I left in 1988. This visit was me reconnecting with my roots. Emerald View was the best place for me to do this. The people their treated me as family and it was a great visit. As I told my friends and family here, I am ready to go back now. Jennifer (owner) is a nice and kind person that made our stay really easy. The view is amazing. The pool is small but well mantained. The place is not close to the beach, but they were happy to take us there and pick us back, free of charge. We spend 2 full days in the beach. The first day we arrive we were warmly greeted, they agreed to pick us up from the bus station and they glady took us anywhere we wanted to go from that point. Not at all what we expected. This is not a three star hotel, but a bungalow that has been converted into a motel, run by the lady of the house, her two daughters and two employees. Maintenance severely needed, it is not close to ANYTHING, not even the main street or the center of the city. It is situated in a village on the outskirts of Montego bay. […] The road leading to the motel which is at the top of a hill is not paved and gets very dark at night. Even going to a decent restaurant involves walking to the bottom of the hill and hailing a cab to take you to the city, which adds to the expense. The sheets were not clean, the bathroom is very basic and the knob was broken, so it could not be locked or even closed from the inside, hot water was not always available, the shower head was broken, there was no water pressure, outlets were not working, the crockery was not clean, there was no phone in the room, no easy way to hire a cab, unless the husband of the lady was available to drive you at a premium! As if this was not all, they charge to make any calls to a cel phone, which can only be made from the front office. If the lady of the house is out shopping or not around, one has to wait to get her permission before calls can be made. Läs mer
