If you want to stay in a questionable neighborhood with the mostly construction residents hanging out in front and drinking then this is the place for you. We wanted close to I-95 for our drive north, away from the DC commuters coming to work, so the location was perfect. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, as were those in the two other Carlson hotels we used on our trip. Breakfast was OK, but not so good as the other two. Felt uncomfortable in the area of town. Hotel was nice. Person checking me in was complaining about me checking in and taking one of their 2 queen bed rooms. She was agitated that rooms were being reserved outside of their control. She claimed there was a bus load of people coming in the following evening and my reservation for two days would block […] that room from reserving for 5 days. When I checked in the front desk was very friendly as she was telling me she was going to try to call me to cancel my room because they somehow were overbooked, butl luckily someone canceled. She said she didn't know how I was able to book through hotels.com because they were sold out. She said she had a last minute cancel which saved me! That made […] me a little nervous! Other than an almost overbooking which would have left me & 5 others stranded at 9:30pm - looking for a quick place to sleep for a morning event in the area - it did the trick. Rooms were very clean & comfortable. The only downfall - which was no fault of the hotel - was the 2am drag racing that was going on outside. The front desk customer service employees were the worst I have ever encountered. The host in the breakfast area was extremely helpful and very nice. The hotel also had a cigarette smell. Our room even had a ash tray and a book of matches in the room. When I questioned the front desk about this I was told ash trays have been in the room since the hotel […] was built. As always the hotel staff was extremely helpful and nice. The breakfast area was clean and ample supplies of food. The hotel was clean and neat. Had trouble with the vending machine, the staff replaced our money quickly and without complaint. Convenient location to Capitol Heights metro stop. This was the worst hotel I have ever seen. Cigar fillings all down the hall and someone sitting in a daze in the hallway spaced out with the cigar filled with other stuff. Man taking truckers pulling in up to his room for short periods and then they came out sweaty and bugged out, vomit all over the floor at the vending area. This property on 8850 Hampton Mall Drive is just outside the DC area in the Capitol Heights area. It's 4 years old and still in great condition. It is in a mixed shopping-type area with a 7-11 store, auto repair store, Home Depot, Staples, I-Hop, Wendy's, and more. It is a half mile off I-95 and less than a mile from a nice, well-lit metro station. […] Parking at the metro fills up early but space is available after 10:00AM. I felt safe staying here and driving back and forth to the Morgan Blvd metro. It's a 30 minute ride to the Smithsonian on the Blue Line. The breakfast area was clean and had coffee, juice, milk, yogurt, some fruit, bagels, muffins and pastries. One day the scrambled eggs tasted like rubber and the next morning they were decent. The room had a comfortable bed and a wall thermostat for the air conditioning unit. The description of the Colonial Inn on hotels.com is completEly inaccurate. It claims that all rooms have smoking permitted, an indoor pool, children's pool and sauna. Well upon arrival there is a GIANT sign announcing that the entire premises is SMOKE FREE! We had been on the road for several hours and were exhausted at that point. The desk clerk seemed […] to have cared less that there hotel was being falsely advertised and told me "Well we've been smoke free since last November! Do you wanna check-in?" - ummmmm don't you think it would be a good idea to update the companies YOU ADVERTISE WITH!!!! and some empathy? Anyway on to the "pool" area - so....they don't have an indoor pool, children's pool AND sauna.......they have a 10x10 3ft indoor pool that's so darn hot in there (they must be considering the room as the sauna) there is no adult size/depth pool anywhere. The room advertised to have 2 king beds (which it did!) a sleeper sofa (which it did not) and separate seating area (which it did not) - the morning after our arrival I happened to be the first one up and went to the bathroom WHERE IT WAS COVERED IN ANTS...I immediately woke my family got dressed and checked out.... I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - the "neighborhood" has speeding cars going up and down the streets all night long - there seems to be some sort of car dealership across the way and you can clearly hear their intercom system. Let's start with furniture... thats the first Hotel room in this price range I have ever seen with so much room, comfortable chair and "office area", power outlets locations and comfort of sleep. Room was very big, nice remodeled bathroom, clean. Hall area was very clean, carpets in perfect condition. Hot tube temperature was very good, Swimming Pool are very clean I would recommend to supply more towels. Lifeguard on Duty, very nice guys, very helpful and what's very important I noticed that they really watch what is going on in the pool and around the pool. Great Job A+ for that ! Breakfast was very unique for that level of hotels. Everything fresh, and very tasty, Fresh baked Bacon, Fresh scrambled eggs, waffles, milk, juices, and other very tasty thing which I, my wife and my 4 yo daughter really enjoy. The hotel is in a good location for visiting Washington DC very close without the close cost. The hotel staff was great very helpful and nice. The breakfeast at the hotel was better than most. The hotel's neighborhood could have been better. Neighborhood was not the most deseriable.

We stayed at various hotels during this trip but Country Inn and Suites was the best of them all! The hotel was clean, the staff were attentive, courteous, and professional, and the rooms had an updated, modern, and luxurious feel. We will be glad to book at Country Inn and Suites again.

The best thing about this hotel is the amazing service and the above-and-beyond professionalism. When we first made it into the hotel room, the lady at the front desk called us to make sure we had everything we needed, and to remind us that we can call the front desk if we've forgotten anything. That was a NICE TOUCH!! The rooms (specifically the bathrooms) […] in this place are also very comfortable and nice. The only problem is that it's in a shopping area that includes a 7-11 and a Home Depot, which can draw in suspicious groups of people lingering in the parking lot. Our two rooms were not available when we arrived. We were told that the hotel was over booked. So, they sent us to the Sleep Inn. The hotel said that they would have their driver get us to and from the game. The driver tried to collect $20 from each of us. This hotel was neat a clean and quiet. The only real drawback was that it is isolated from restaurants and any walking destinations. It is located in a mall with with Home Depot and other big box stores but with no reataurants.
