Mycket Bra och prisvärt litet hotel i lugn del av NYC

Trots tidig bokning blev vi omflyttade till ett annat hotel med mycket trångt utrymme på rummet första natten pga överbokning, vilket kompenserades av ett mycket stort och bekvämt rum de andra två nätterna. Mycket service vänlig personal.

Hotellet ligger hyfsat bra i förhållande till annat men är inte mitt ismeten med tanke på Time Square etc. Men det ligger relativt lugnt och man kan få sin sömn tillgodosedd! Tyvärr har Hotels.com resp Expedia felaktig info på sin hemsida, hotellet har bara queen sängar , inga Kingsize sängar. Och endast 2-3 rum har 2 Queensängar. Så det var tråkigt […] då vi trodde vi hade beställt en King och en Queen. De rummen med 2 Queen är stora och fina! De andra med en Queen är bra men mycket mindre. Man kunde dock få in en rolloutbed utan problem. Frukoststället mittemot var trevligt och bra, även på kvällen. Läs mer

Lugnt läge, bad om ett tyst rum och fick ett rum mot baksidan. Ingen störande trafik! Bodde på hotellet 7 nätter och de dammsög inte golvet (matta) eller bytte sängkläder. Däremot fick jag tvålar så det räckte och blev över! Sängen var verkligen skön och rummet var mycket trevligt! Personalen var korrekt men inte vidare pratsam. Rummet var stort (vilket inte hör till vanligheterna i NYC)! Rent och fräscht. Trevlig och hjälpsam personal. Lätt att få taxi utanför. När till chelsea market. Något kvarter för långt till tunnelbanan, men det kan man stå ut med. Annars var det helt perfekt, skulle inte tveka på att boka det igen.

Vi fick efter vårt önskemål ett tyst (ej trafikstört) rum som låg högst upp med utsikt över parken, på bekostnad av att det blev ett av de mindre rummen på hotellet. Litet men mycket funktionellt och bra. Hotellet läge är utmärkt med närhet till ett otal konstgallerier, mysiga krogar såsom Cookshop som ligger bara tvärs över gatan, Chelsea market och […] Murray´s bagles på 242 8th Ave som verkligen är värt ett besök om man gillar bagles. Vi besökte gymmet som hotellet har tillgång till på prästseminariets område och även det var litet men mycket funktionellt. Vi blev fast i NY i tre extra dagar på grund av en snöstorm och hotellets personal var mycket hjälpsam med att bistå oss med kontakt med flygbolaget. Läs mer

Ett mycket trevligt och prisvärt hotell i Chelsea. Mycket bra standard på rummen. Trevlig och hjälpsam personal. Nära till alla trevliga gallerier och restauranger i Chelsea och Meatpacking. Nära Chelsea Market. Ligger lite "off", vilket innebär att det är ett par kvarter till Tunnelbanna, men buss stannar utanför porten och gott om taxi på gatan. […] Att det ligger lite avsides innebär dock att det är tyst och lugnt. Trevlig trädgård på baksidan. Inget störande nattliv eller trafik. Finns ingen frukostmatsal, men två Dinners runt hörnet. Vilket passade oss perfekt. Och förmodligen mer prisvärt än hotellfrukost. Frukt serverades dock i receptionen. Även varmt cider/kaffe några eftermiddagar. En liten oas som verkligen kan rekommenderas. Läs mer

Konferenscenter i Chelsea, ligger i ett kvarter som i övrigt fylls av ett teologiskt seminarium och boende för personer med anknytning till seminariet. Lite annorlunda än ett vanligt hotel men mycket trevligt, nära till allt, rena, fräscha och bekväma rum. Att DTC inte serverar frukost är inget problem - cookshop på hörnet öppnar kl 08.00 på vardagar […] och det är 5 min till 9th Ave med flera frukostställen, delis och bagerier. Nice hotel with a nice bathroom. Ask for a room towards the garden or side street to get a quiet room without noise from the 10th avenue. Closest subway is a 5 min walk away on 23rd and 8th avenue.

Verkade som ett rätt märkligt ställe när jag först tittade på beskrivningen (innegård, få rum, NAMNET mm) men visade sig vara ett riktigt toppenställe! Mysigt rum, lugnt hotell, nära att gå ner till SoHo osv. Tog ca 5-10 min att gå till tunnelbanan (linje A,B,C på 23e gatan). Viktigast av allt enligt mig när jag bokar är att badrummet och sängkläderna […] är fräscha, på detta ställe fann ingenting att klaga på. Toppen helt enkelt! Läs mer

We had an excellent stay. The staff was very helpful. We got in a litte early and they let us going into our room without having to wait. We we able to secure a late check-out without all the fuss that one can often experience. The room was great! We were expecting the tiny NYC type room with no space and small bathroom, but we had a great size room. […] It could not have been better! Läs mer

We enjoyed the lovely sunny patio and grounds! A very home-like setting with a courteous and attentive staff! We'll be back!

Rooms vary in size but are all very nicely appointed and clean. The staff are exceptionally nice and helpful. When reading reviews of other more expensive hotels I was amazed how many people commented on rude staff...not here. They were all looking out for you. Was going out for a walk and they ran to get me a cold bottle of water to take with me without […] me asking. This was typical of the stay. My husband and I were in NY for two nights but had only made reservations here for the 2nd night. For the first night we last-minute-crashed with family in a brand new hotel in a small, cramped room at twice the cost of this one, and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived here for our 2nd night. Front desk personnel were incredibly friendly and the […] guy there even helped us find a good (free!) parking spot on the street. He was extremely concerned as to whether we parked in a good spot that would not get us towed the next morning. This was in stark contrast to the previous hotel where we were nickeled and dimed (well, five- and ten-dollared) to death and tips expected at every turn for the smallest of services. We tipped the man who helped us with parking, and we could tell he felt awkward taking it but really appreciated it. The room was huge, clean, nicely decorated and the bed actually comfortable. Lots of space to move around, big windows, sitting area with couch (which probably was a fold out), and if I recall even a fireplace (but not sure if that was functional or decorative). Bathroom was also big. This place had none of the industrial look and feel of a commercial hotel - more of an apartment. All the shampoos/lotions/etc were eco-friendly and it was interesting to see what other eco-minded changes they are making. It also has an interesting history as it used to be part of the seminary. We typically never go to NYC, but I might be going again within the year for a girls' weekend, and if so I plan to come back to this hotel. I was so disappointed we could only be there one night. I stayed here because I am an alum of GTS. The room was clean, and overall the hotel was quiet. That said, the room was like a monk's cell--very small. It was difficult to get around the bed. Also the room was very warm, so I had to open the window which allowed all the constant noise from 10th Ave.

Completely modern rooms in a beautiful Gothic Revival building (part of the Episcopal Seminary). Access to the seminary's green and quiet courtyard. No restaurants, which is fine because there are lots of good places in the neighborhood. My room was on the top floor, in a dormer, with a view over the High Line. The air conditioning in the room was not working. Very Hot. Had to change the keys 3 times still did not work. Even the guy from Housekeeping had a hard time opening the door. THis was the 3rd time I stayed here, would try it one more time.

Great hotel. Comfortable, clean, convenient, polite staff.

cozy, clean, convenient! loved every minute of our two night stay at the Desmond Tutu Center.

Very clean -- well-priced -- no food service, but plenty of places in the neighborhood. I will return.

Perfect for a single and older woman navigating the subway, seeing the sights in Chelsea, and the many wonderful little restaurants in the area. Perfectly safe. I felt well cared for, the in-room coffee was just the right thing to wake up to, and I loved the view of the park. There are 60 hotel rooms in this big 19th century building that seems to serve also as a conference center and residential complex. Room was basic, but comfortable and had everything we needed. A block from the High Line, close to Chelsea Market, galleries, lots of colorful little restaurants.

This was a very clean, quiet and friendly hotel. I enjoyed the location. There are great restaurants in Chelsea. Very near some really cool places too. The Hudson River Park is walking distance.

We needed a place to stay that was near Moran's where my cousin was getting married. The Desmond Tutu Center was literally a half-block away, and turned out to be an excellent find. Very affordable room-- ours was a bit on the small side, but it was still charming and clean. Definitely recommend it if you're staying in the neighborhood.

The Desmond Tutu Center, on 10th Avenue between 20th and 21st Streets, is former dormitory space of the General Theological Seminary, as evidenced in part by the lovely interior courtyard, complete with chapel, and a Refectory that resembles the dining hall at Hogwarts. Friendly staff, clean rooms, comfy bed, great neighborhood. Will stay again.

A very good experience. Clean, comfortable accommodations done in an effiicient, no-nonsense manner. Especially good for those who know New York and can thrive even if slightly off the beaten path.

Really good hotel, friendly staff and a great location near cosy Meat Packing district with lovely restaurants. I like Chelsey who are so wonderful. I really enjoyed my stay there and will definitely go back soon!

we were surprised and happy using this hotel for the first time. location is convenient for having a car with a garage right across the street. Location is off a bit, though my wife & I are native New Yorkers and are used to walking around (urban hiking) a lot. Close to the Highline is an attraction for a return visit in the spring. This was an unexpected surprise. Very good location in Chelsea area, friendly staff, good room size (definitely not your typical NYC postage stamp room), good amenities and internet service, clean and well maintained. Even with the plaster walls, street traffic be a little noisy depending on the location of your room. Find the Hotel in the cool Chelsea/Meatpacking area, where there is a great atmosphere, and a lot of nice restaurants etc. near by. A very nice hotel - good service, very clean and comfortable. The room and bed was a bit smaller than we have tried in other hotels in the US, but was more than enough for us, the three days/nights we stayed there in January […] 2012. I would fully recomend it for couples, who are on vacation in New York and who need a place to stay/sleep/relax in a quiet and nice neighborhood. Läs mer

I loved this hotel. It was excellent value and in a fantastic location near Chelsea Market and the High Liner (?) Park. This hotel is a good value for NYC. The subway location is several blocks walking distance away which may be a deterrant for some guests. The room was very clean and the "green" toiletries were a nice touch. Mainly quiet, but I could hear another guest bathing her child through the vent in the bedroom. My only complaint is that the front desk volunteered […] to get me a taxi for transfer to the airport and told me it was "about the same price". In reality, it was a car service that was unmetered and this costs about 20.00 more (with tips and toll) than a yellow taxi that is metered. So beware that It is cheaper to hail a taxi on your own in front of hotel for airport transfers. Läs mer

The bathroom was almost as big as the room itself (quite small), but it was all immaculately clean and well furnished. The service was excellent. I had left my camera in the room and they held it for me and required photo id to return it. I would have liked a slightly larger room, but would happily return.

Want to relax in New-York city? It is possible at the Desmond Tutu Center. Located at Chelsea in a quiet area, this hotel is perfect to relax after an exhausting day in the crazy city of New-York. Want to have a delicious breakfast near the hotel? Go to the Chelsea Market at only 4 blocks! Very cool place to eat and shop. Cookshop restaurant also serve […] excellent breakfast. Want to see NYC? Get on the metro in 8 minutes and go to central park or downtown. Everything is close to you in NYC. We love that place and we will come back for sure. Läs mer

Unless you have business in Chelsea the location of this hotel is worth considering: Lots of trafik on Tenth Ave and quite far from all places of interest on Manhattan - even from the nearest subway station. The hotel doesn´t function as a normal full service hotel, it has a small reception but not much more to offer with regard to service: No restaurant, […] roomservice or even minibar. When you book a room through Hotels.com you get a standard room - unless you specifically buy a larger room: In our case the standard room was tiny - six sqare meters - under the roof with a sloping ceiling = not enough floor space for two grown ups to pass each other without one person sitting on the bed. Taking in to consideration that the hotel isn´t cheep I certainly would not consider returning. We have stayed at a number of much nicer hotels in Manhattan, better located and with full service with out paying any more. Läs mer

I've stayed at this hotel multiple times. The rooms are charming, the building is unique, the location is great but the plumbing is terrible. This is the second time I have stayed there when my bathtub did not drain while in the shower. The first time, I figured it was a fluke. This time - in a different room - I was standing in my own shower water […] - up to my ankles, when some dark grey sludge came up from the drain. When I complained at the desk I was met with blank stares. They promised to call housekeeping. That's just what they said the last time. I'm guessing they are used to this complaint! Läs mer

I wasn't expecting anything but the place was very civilized and clean and my room was roomy. There were some minor things - the pillows were very stiff. No luggage stand. The automatic motion sensored faucet at the vanity wasn't a good idea. Couldn't control the temperature and kept turning off when rinsing soap off my face. The internet was an iffy […] connection but FREE! I didn't stay long enough to fully look around. The grounds look like a museum and beautiful. Lobby is clean and had coffee in the afternoon with cookies. Little things like that can make a tired business woman feel soooo much better. Nice staff. A terry robe in the closet. Wish I had more time there. Much prefer this location to hectic Time Sq. Only a block away from the high line access. But a long walk to the subway stop. Läs mer

Great hotel, 3rd time I've stayed here. Really friendly & helpful staff. Get a room in the front facing the highline for views of people walking by. Also facing west you have nice sunsets since there are no tall buildings...

Great location near Chelsea with many excellent restaurants and shops within walking distance. Only one bock from the Highline, and a couple of blocks from the waterfront walkway. We walked to Chelsea Market via the Highline, then to Ground Zero via the waterfront walkway. Discovered several excellent restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel.
