Room was clean and stylish, sheets were nice. We could have the air conditioner on at all time if we wanted so there was no problem arriving at a nice could room after a day at the beach. Electricity could also be left turned on even though no person was in the room. All you needed was to leave one of the keys. Cleaners did not touch it. Nice! The hotel was a bit worn down, and our room smelled really strong of mildew. The smell didn't disappear even with the AC on full blast. Pool area and everything else was ok, but this is really not a 4 star hotel in any aspect.

Conveniently on the beach for easy access, free kayak rentals and the pool lounge area is also nice. We didn't know the weather is opposite here than in Panama City, so it rained and was overcast most of the time which was disappointing but we still enjoyed it. We were there right after Easter (Holy Week/Semana Santa) so it was pretty dead, and more […] of a family resort. It's a short cab ride ($2/person each way before midnight) into Bocas town where all the shops and restaurants/bars are, but away from the noise if the town was raging. The room smelled a bit funky but I'm used to all Panama places being like that due to the humidity + AC + beachfront locations. Very pleasant hotel. Only hassle is an inefficient shuttle service from town, requiring one to pay for taxi services to and from town. They should have a regular hourly shuttle to the town. Food in hotel not great, but neither was it in the town. Nice pool and hotel amenities. Overall wonderful stay on the island.

Good staff and very friendly, but maintenance was a problem in our bathroom as the shower floor drain did not drain properly and air conditioner could not be controlled.

While it is immediately apparent that this hotel does not belong to one of the big name 4 or 5 star hotel chains, any one of those big names would seem out of place in a destination such as Bocas. The Playa Tortuga is probably the nicest of the area's hotels, but it still has the charm of the small budget operators, with most of the amenities you'd […] expect at the top of the line. The staff comprise the hotel's greatest asset. From Rodolfo, the head bell boy on duty who was at the airport offering free shuttle service to arriving guests, to the front desk clerks, the wait staff in the restaurants, and the pool attendants - all were very friendly and went out of their way to assist with any request. Just a few cons: Each morning of our 2-day stay, there was (no surprise) a power outage that lasted about 2 hours each time). The hotel's generators came on so the lights & TV worked, but during those periods, there's no hot water, air conditioning in the rooms, or fans in the main dining room. It was just one reminder that it's still a 'developing' country. Also - no drinking water given in the rooms or at mealtime. Bottled water was available only upon request at the restaurant bar for $2.75 each. There was a door near the front desk marked "Gift Shop", but lights were off, door locked and it was empty of any stock. No shopping available on site. Läs mer

The room had an unpleasant odour (paint or turpentine). We were told we could not change rooms because the hotel was full when it was obvious it was only 20% full at max. The menu was very limited and the breakfast buffet was mediocre at best. The food in the buffet was not hot and very limited in variety. There were no activities and any equipment […] available was defective. For an advertised 4 star hotel, there were no tissues available nor glasses, nor water or coffee in the rooms and everything cost extra. IE bread with meal or hot chocolate with breakfast. Personal is very unfriendly & absolut not Customer friendly or oriented. Hotel Complex is under construction. Rooms to the mainstreet are Not recommended. (to noise, no wifi) breakfast is simple. Only small bar food menu, no Restaurant. Pool is propebly the only reason, to visit this place.

A very friendly and quiet hotel in spite of its size. A relaxing mood quite in line with the Boca del Toro atmosphere, with a high comfort. It's worth being 2 km away from the city centre for the setting and the quietness, with an helpful shuttle. Maintenance is perfect. So the age of the hotel is not a concern. This is an excellent hotel and view location. A cheap taxi ride from the airport or back into town but you cannot beat the view. We loved walking around the town of Bocas del Toro, which is too far to walk from the hotel. However, Playa Tortuga Hotel is the best hotel in the area. My only complaint was a musty smell in the room upon our arrival; however, this soon dissipated after turning on the air and opening the sliding door to the balcony. The room and all rooms have a moldy smell, they need to run the air condition all the time and they do not. Over all the hotel is good value but I had to leave the sliding balcony doors open all the time to get ride of the smell The front desk people said that it was Panama and I should expect it.

Great location, and beautiful views, all rooms have ocean views which was really nice...hotel is about 5 minutes buy car from the center of town and 15 minute bike ride...staff was friendly and helpful, the only thing was that as the hotel was completely full and our room was a bit noisy because they have a door between each room (for bigger families)... This is a nice property. Not great like we expected from the photos, but its nice. The pool was dirty and stagnant, the water level wasn't even reaching the filters and it was filled with bugs. The service was awful, with the exception of Yvette and one other person at the front desk (can't remember her name). They were great, but everyone else barely […] said anything to us, looked away as we passed by and didn't seem to know much about anything. We had an awful dining experience our first night, the food was tasteless, overpriced and cold. My wife and I were so disgusted with everything after our first night (the a/c in our room didn't work either) that we wanted to take a 5 hour bus ride back to The Haven in Boquete where we had just come from. Yvette promised to make everything better and she did help. She upgraded us to a suite and gave us a few amenities, so we stayed. The whole experience was just alright. From the website we expected a lot, but the place didn't live up to its hype. Just be forewarned, don't expect what's in the photos. Läs mer

I have said it before and will say it again. Go to the hut at the end of the pier - they have great food and it is nice to sit out over the ocean. the pool is nice, especially if you have kids as it is very shallow. The beach...eh, not so much. also, dont try to walk here from the airport even if you see lots of people walking...get a taxi for 2$.

This was the best hotel in our entire trip around Panama. The service was excellent. Food & Beverages PERFECT! We were celebrating our honeymoon and they just made us feel very special. Cant wait to go back!

Seems to be the nicest hotel on Colon Island when youre shopping around online. They boast free transportation to and from the port, complimentary breakfast, and a bilingual staff. plus, the pictures make it look like paradise. But when you arrive the story changes...the hotel is far from downtown, and while there is a small van which leaves from the […] hotel at 3 scheduled times daily, this doesn't help you when you walk off the boat in downtown. When we arrived by taxi to the hotel the front desk staff was NOT bilingual by a long-shot, we were given a double room although I had booked a Queen, which was disappointing, but the language barrier made it impossible to correct. Our room was comfortable for the most part, although the AC was loud, and leaked badly the second night we were there. You also cannot leave your AC on while you are not in the room, as you must put your hotel key into a wall mounted box to activatre the electric source inside your room, this includes the mini fridge....not very ideal when you want to come back after being in the heat all day to a cold room or an ice cold drink, you'd think the price tag would include as much electricity as you might perfer!! The complimentary breakfast was not very good: stale cereals, highly concentrated juices, and some fried food which was not kept warm enough. My husband and I were at Playa Tortuga 11/21-11/25/2010. We have travelled to many places in Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico and thought the service at Playa Tortuga was the best we've ever received. We needed several things during our stay such as an extra folding luggage rack, an ice bucket and a lightbulb. We're used to "being on island […] time" but were amazed that requested items were delivered to our room IN MINUTES!! We once made a request at the front desk and didn't even get back to our room...the maintenance man was waiting for us at our door! The free breakfast every morning was great. I think every room in this hotel has a spectacular view. The front desk staff has an excellent command of the English language. Never any problems there. This is far and away the niceist hotel in Bocas. It's a bit out of the way but it is on a lovely beach. The hotels in town are look to be a bit run down although I only saw them from the outside.

Nos pareció bueno para estar con niños pequeños, lo único es que no tenían canales de T.V. para niños, lo tuvimos que pedir especialmente, y sólo se veía uno. Buena la piscina, segura la altura para niños y al lado de la playa. No hay ascensor para subir las maletas. Bueno contar con traslados para el centro, varias posibilidades de horas para ir y […] volver.
