Spännande gammal stad med en 1000 år gammal katedral som var närmaste granne till vårt hotell. Vistelsen var trots snö och regn en upplevelse inte minst tack vare det bekväma hotellet.

För att komma till hotellet måste man ha bil - det går inte att på något annat sätt nå hotellet. Huvudbyggnaden byggdes sent 1800-tal tidigt 1900-tal av en rik familj och är ett veritabelt kråkslott i rött tegel men man bor i ett intilliggande annex med låga hus i enplan eller max två våningar högt. Rummet var helt OK - med en enorm klocka i badrummet (så stor att den skulle passa på en järnvägsstation!) - och frukosten var OK liksom baren och den mat som kunde beställas. Husen och därmed hotellet är beläget i en stor park med öppna gräsytor - det finns en cricketplan på området - med en enorm trädgård och massor av träd. Det är precis som man föreställer sig att den engelska landsbygden är vilket gör att vistelsen blir väldigt tyst och extremt behaglig. Närmaste större samhälle - Wickham - har en del pubar och restauranger och vill man uppleva större städer ligger Portsmouth och Southampton max en timme bort (om man tänker på trafiken). Som sagt, man måste ha bil men utan en bil hade man inte haft möjlighet att uppleva detta hotell.

Den var mkt bra, det enda som saknades var stolar någonstans förutom till frukosten, vi fick sitta i sängen vilket inte kändes så bra. Det fanns heller ingen sittplats utanför hotellet vilket var ett litet minus. "You'll be happy with his B&B"
Pleasantly furnished and spotlessly clean, this B&B is a real find, well worth its cost. I hope someday to be able to spend a few days rather than merely pass through. Its location is excellent, for it's possible to walk down to the city center in 20-25 minutes. I thought it was a nice place to stay, and definitely worth it for the money. I had to check in quite late and the check-in process was quick and easy. The room was clean and quiet, and the bed was comfortable. The shared bathroom was also very clean and well looked after. There was also a kettle and coffee and some biscuits which we're good for a working […] session I had on one of the nights! I tried the (free) Internet one night -- it didn't work for a while and then it was a little slow (could have been someone watching iPlayer in another room, for all I know though), then I tried it another time and it was absolutely fine -- not major though! Location was also good (the area's perhaps not the nicest, but think it's generally okay) -- 10 mins or so for Southampton Central station, and about the same beyond for the city centre. "Not a four star"
This property is not four star rated, two star at best according to my critical eye and my three day stay. The Brits are a little stiff but the management at this hotel reinforce that stereotype to the letter. This establishment is all about the money. The size of my room reminded me of a prison cell. The bathroom light could not be controlled by me […] and turned off automatically after exiting this included the bathroom fan which produced an annoying noise for three minutes. The television operated with the same thrifty concept. Thrifty was the mode of operation for this establishment which impacted the quality of bacon served for breakfast" and the use of wifi only in the dining room after you have consulted the caretaker. I understand that you get what you pay for, but please don' t mislead us. I would rather pay more and get my expectations met than to get to a place and be disappointed. When I arrived I was told I booked a single room and that I would share a bathroom and for my own bathroom I had to pay more. I reviewed my booking and there was no such notation. I payed the difference for a cell with a bath, but I would have preferred going to a REAL four star hotel, but the cancellation policy was cost prohibited. "Great Value for the money"
The guest house was close to the train station and not too far from the main part of the city. The owner was friendly and helpful. The internet did not always work in the room but apparently the entire city is just now getting fiberoptic lines so hopefully it will improve. "Clean,Quiet qnd Convient !!"
Very clean and very well located to the main part of the city! Easy walkto restaurants etc. Room was pleasant and very quiet. Bathrooms had to be shared but not a problem. "OK overall"
Generally OK. Good location, close to the centre of Southampton. However, we had a very small room, albeit with en-suite. There was not really enough space for the furniture (i.e. Bed), our cases, and 2 of us. "Fairly good stay here."
This is a two story B-and-B type guest house in an old neighborhood of Southampton. There are several others like it on the same block. No elevator. We had trouble sleeping, being either too hot with the thick coverlet or too cold because of air temperature. Breakfast was ample and well-prepared. I stayed 2 nights at Argyle Lodge after an job interview at the end of June. The B&B is within walking distance to train station and the city centre. I was well provided for in terms of tea/coffee/snacks. Shower was a bit tricky at first, but ok once I got used to it. Would've liked to have a chair in the room (as 1 other reviewer pointed out). I will be very honest, not a place for couples and romantic weekends. First of all you need to be ready to share the bathroom and the bed was not comfy at all with very old matress....We were looking for nice place to eat and we ended up to go Winchester wich took us 25min in driving because there were no nice place to eat localy....Verifierad gästrecension

Perhaps it was because we are used to proper hotels that have been discounting their prices but I don't think that this establishment rated four stars or the prices that a hotel would charge. Although within walking distance of the centre it was still about twenty minutes away from the main shopping area. It was typical of the bed and breakfast establishments […] that I had to stay in as a young man and the breakfast was entirely predictable and missing the generous touches a modern hotel affords. Easy to locate from the port. A comfortable, reasonably priced, rest for a weary traveller. Downside: Lack of en suite facilities and an automatic lighting system that plunged me into darkness in mid shower! Very clean and comfortable home style hotel. Modern bed and breakfast type. If you don't mind the bathroom and toilet not in the room, this hotel is superb. Nice decor, clean and comfort bed. has wash basin and coffee making facilities in the room too. Great for short stay especially for people coming to Southampton for the cruise ships. Handy location, only cost a few pounds for Taxi from the Southampton central station. and not far from the City Cruise terminal either. where we boarded our cruise ship, about 5 pounds for taxi. "Hands up who loves hard - rock hard - beds?"
As I have already informed tripadvisor this is not a place I would ever want to stay again. 1. The landlady took ages to answer the locked door (it was about 6pm) and it was raining hard. 2. I asked for a room in a quiet spot so we were next to the dining room! 3. As I sat on the bed - sat not lying down - the base rose up to meet me - rapidly therefore […] I had very little sleep both nights. 4. There were no tissues in the room. 5. There were no serviettes in the dining room. 6. The room was naturally dark anyway so to add to the ambience there was some kind of strange dark blue plastic stuff on the walls like you would see in a kitchen and the ceiling lighting was totally unable to counteract the darkness. 6. At some time a bulb in the ceiling must have blown and it had been tastefully replaced by a BLUE bulb. 7. There was rust and the beginnings of mildew in the shower cubicle. 8. When we arrived back at the Lodge after being out for the evening we had no electricity except the ceiling lights, therefore, we were unable to make a hot drink, read in bed or go to the bathroom without a torch. Apparently a guest had blown a fuse or something or so we were told the next morning. 9. At breakfast the yolks on my poached eggs were hard, the butter and jams (except the blackcurrant jam) were tasteless and the bread had a strange texture as if it had been made partially with semolina.
