"Perfect for quiet out of the way vacation."

"Most romantic spot!"
Absolute beautiful, view amazing, bed very comfortable. We went during"rainy season" and didn't know it. We were the only couple there and had the resort to ourselves, and the rain didn't bother us at all. Breakfast in the room-delicious! "beautiful spot"
This spot has beautiful views is very private yet close to lots of restaurants and shops as well. It has its own path to the beach but beware it is a bit of a workout I felt like I finished a Bikram class when I walked back up. Very helpful staff and yes the bartender is talented as advertised. "Great experience"
An absolutely wonderful place set in the middle of a lush rain forest. The staff was friendly and helpful in every way. They responded to every single request we had, and the experience was everything we had hoped for ... and more! "Beautiful accommodations but service lacking"
This could have been a dream vacation due to the luxury facilities, however, we stayed at this hotel during the low season and due to the low occupancy rate we had the unfortunate experience of lackadaisical service from the hotel staff. On the night of our arrival, the night reception employee was impatient with our basic questions about the facility […] and tours even though we had never been to the area before. The next day he forgot to order an early breakfast order for us that we had put in the night before, which made us late for our park visit that day. The kitchen prepared a "to go" breakfast for us to pick up at the front gate which consisted of fruit and fruit juice with no utensils and none of the other continental breakfast items we ordered. There was no apology even though we expressed our disappointment several times. The following day they closed the only hotel restaurant (poolside) with no advance notice. We were disappointed about that as we had come back to the hotel for drinks by the pool that afternoon, but the bar was closed. Since we only saw six additional guests at the hotel during our entire stay, and the night clerk playing solitaire on the computer, we expected much better service due to the highly touted "personal service" promises on this hotel's web site and marketing propaganda. "Immersed in the Jungle"
Its not fair that I came here after being completely wowed by Arenal Nayara. Overall the property was nice. Our room had a rustic charm and was complete with kitchenette. I would suggest a little updating. Definitely not luxurious. If you want privacy and seclusion, these free standing villas filfill that need. Room 9 had a beautiful ocean view. There […] is nothing separating you from the wildlife. Definitely for the young and fit, expect a lot of walking up and down stairs and across gravel to get anywhere. The pool is beautiful, even though we never actually used it. The food was good, and the staff was attentive. Breakfast brought to our room every morning. We ventured down the harrowing steep trail to the private beach. The trail is not well maintained, and takes at least 15 minutes. Halfway down we were greeted by a family of monkeys! The private beach was small and serene and completely natural. Hermit crabs crawled everywhere. The gentleman at guest services arranged our excursions and was extremely helpful and accommodating. Overall pretty good. Honestly, I will be staying somewhere else the next time I am in the area mostly because I would prefer to be closer to the beach, less hiking, and a little more luxury. "Understated Luxury"
Makanda is the perfect Costa Rican hotel... Understated Luxury. Each Villa is private from the others surrounded by lush rain forrest and view of the ocean. Monkeys were in the trees above our balcony every morning as we were complimentary served a wonderful homemade breakfast in our room each morning. "Jungle Paradise with Warm & Friendly Service"
The Makanda is simply wonderful. If your idea of a tropical vacation is a gem of a hotel set into the jungle, with a view of the ocean over the forest canopy, brilliant blue infinity pool with sumptuous outdoor dining, this is the place for you. The hotel has only 11 rooms, so you can't feel crowded, and most of the rooms are barely visible from the […] others. Our room had an entire wall of teak French doors that opened onto a tiled veranda, with wicker chairs, hammock and breakfast table, all overlooking the jungle canopy with the ocean below. The room was extra large, with kitchen, canopied king bed, settee, walk in closet and spacious tiled bath. Picture an iconic jungle soundtrack playing in the background, interrupted only by the inevitable equatorial rain shower washing over your roof, and you will appreciate what the atmosphere is like. We loved it. The hotel staff was an equal highlight. They were genuinely friendly, engaging, helpful and eager to make our stay perfect. We enjoyed meeting each of them. We arranged two tours through the hotel, plus ground transport back to San Jose (local flights were booked, if you're going, book those in advance), and the Makanda receptionist/concierge hooked us up with great tour companies featuring experienced guides. Tours of Manuel Antonio Park (minutes away, literally) and the Mangroves (by boat) were memorable. In our spare time, we floated in the pool and watched three sloths move leisurely in a nearby tree. "Makanda - Manuel Antonio's most romantic place to stay"
The Makanda is a wonderful, quaint and romantic place to stay. The villas were all very private. Beautiful flowers were in our room when we arrived. We loved the hammock on our veranda. We watched the monkeys every morning while having breakfast on our veranda and also could see the ocean. The food was delicious and breakfast was delivered to our room […] every morning at the time we had selected. The beach was private and a short walk down a trail. We loved sitting in the hot tub and pool while looking at the ocean below.All the staff made us feel like we were part of their family. The night dining was very romantic under the stars and the food was superb. So glad we chose this adults only place to stay. You could hear the sounds in the rainforest and the ocean waves. "What a view!"
I have stayed in many places but this was the first place I stayed where the rooms and the views actually matched the description and photos on the internet. It was breathtaking and the room was great. But nothing could take away from waking up to monkeys, jungle and a beautiful view of the ocean. A car was necessary to get around because it was a little […] bit of a hike to town. The path to the beach is deceiving, worht the walk but it is a long one. The cost for the restaraunt was high but you do not have to eat there. If the lunch and dinner was anything like the breakfast it must be very good. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. They gave us great tips on places to eat and shop, and helped with all of our excursions. "Awesome time at Makanda"
All personnel at Makanda treated my wife and I like we were VIP's. We were on our honeymoon and it could not have been any more perfect. The villas are nice and very spacious with the most awesome view off our huge front porch of the Pacific ocean. Moreover, the villas are extremely private and set right into the jungle where you don't even realize […] other people are there. The pool is great, the food is good, service excellent, breakfast delivered to your room and served on the porch overlooking the Pacific every morning. What more can you ask for? "Makanda: Couldn't Have Wanted For Anything More"
Makanda was absolutely amazing. The villa was perfect. Comfy bed, amazing view, hammock, huge bathroom, fully stocked kitchen, his/hers closets, great couch, SUPER PRIVATE, friendliest staff I have ever encountered, wonderful food, the grounds were exquisite, on and on. I can't say enough! We stayed for a week and everyday we would actually say out […] loud to each other how amazing our hotel was. Oh! And it's secure. We felt totally safe. Tons of wildlife just outside your villa too! There are some awesome restaurants up the hill on the main road and access to two gorgeous beaches by walking. The staff helped us set up some amazing tours which we will never forget. The entire stay was just magical. This hotel is located perfectly between Quepos and Manuel Antonio (which they will give you free rides to). We saw a lot of the hotels nearby, and talked to a bunch of people staying at other places and none sounded or looked even close to what we were getting at Makanda. One of the best parts is the breakfast in the morning. Just call and ten minutes later you have a fresh FULL breakfast delivered to your room! Das Hotel liegt sehr schoen, Blick auf das Meer mit Dschungel davor. Man ist mitten drin, Affen huepfen gelegentlich vorbei. Leute sind sehr nett, alles war sehr sauber. Das Restaurant am Pool ist etwas spaerlich, Fruehstueck gibt es nur direkt aufs Zimmer nach Bestellung - das ist nicht schlecht, dem ein oder anderen wird ein Buffet aber lieber sein. […] Internet im Zimmer gibt es mit Kabel, hat bei uns aber nicht funktioniert. Unter dem Strich: die kleinen genannten Maengel sind fuer mich nicht ausschlaggebend, der Gesamteindruck war prima. "Magnifique"
Piscine a debordement sur la foret tropicale et la mer au fonds. Terrasse privee avec la meme vue. Personnel super disponible sans etre pesant.
