I have to agree with most reviewers here - the view from the B&B is truly awe-inspiring. You can see San Jose, various mountain ranges, and vast swaths of varied vegetation. The atmosphere alone, with the plentiful sun that we got, was enough for us to feel a great sense of peace and relaxation - we are in our 20s and 30s. The area is devoid of urban […] noise, but provides plenty of pleasant wildlife chirps and chippers. The rooms have large (nearly floor-to-ceiling) windows that get plenty of natural light - especially if you are staying in a valley-facing room like we did (ours was called Orion). There is plenty of closet space and many amenities: reasonably fast internet, a gorgeous pool situated on the edge of the precipice, lounging space (including some in a palm grove), secure parking, coffee machine, fridge, and even a safe. The breakfast is worth a special mention - it is personalized, freshly cooked to your liking, and served in a charming hall overlooking the valley. The meals we got were delicious and quite health conscious - freshly pressed fruit juice, your own batch of brewed coffee, and a hearty omelette, cooked in a local flair - ours contained local veggies (including an edible flower that grows on the property). Jonathan, the property manager, deserves a special mention. He is kind, friendly, and ever so accommodating. We felt genuinely welcome, respected, and even pampered. First let me say that the surroundings of Vista Atenas is amazing and Vera and Jonathan provide exceptional service. Vista Atenas B & B, about 40 minutes from SJO Santamaria Airport by car, was a challenge to find after dark, but the locals all gave correct directions. Vista Atenas is a magical sanctuary on the tippy top of a mountain overlooking what looks like heaven on earth. The drive FROM Manuel Antonio was a little steep and intense but when we arrived at the B&B, it so worth it. (By the way, the drive TO the airport area takes a different route and is quite convenient, about 35-40 minutes, very easy.) Vera, […] the owner, is warm and friendly. Her dog Achilles, and cat Apollo, are part of the welcome. Vera has created beautiful gardens there. The rooms are great, comfy bed, clean, each decorated in a special way, named after a constellation. The breakfast room is bright and sunny, overlooking the valley. Breakfast was light but yummy, fresh and local. I really liked the atmosphere there at breakfast -- everyone chattering with each other about the places they had been or were going. Vera offered good advice and information. There is a lovely pool and patio. The view is breathtaking - many kimometers in all directions. I got up early in the morning and watched the mist rise and fall, listening to the sounds from nearby - horses, dogs, birds, roosters... it was so peaceful. Dinner in Atenas is a taxi ride, maybe $4. It was nice to spend our last night and morning in such a beautiful, friendly place. Made it that much harder to leave Costa Rica though! Läs mer

The owners and operator of this bed and breakfast went over the top to make us feel at home. We were originally concerned because this bed and breakfast is a little off the beaten path but it was well worth it. Our room was clean and comfortable, though we didn't have hot water for a shower. We didn't complain about this as we were only there for one […] night. The owner had arranged a small band to come and play for the guests of the bed and breakfast and it was a wonderful surprise to us...so much fun, even though we couldn't understand the words! We had a GREAT stay at this hotel. It is a small operation but that is what made it so much better. Jonathan, who runs the hotel, was a great host and a real pleasure to chat with. The Vista Atenas B&B was one of the best places we stayed while in Costa Rica. Places that were triple the cost were not even half as nice or clean as this B&B. The staff were very courteous and helpful, even providing us directions for the most scenic route to a destination. I highly recommend this B&B and would stay again.

Very nice B&B, they also have a small pool and you can see all of San Jose, which is especially impressive at night. It's in a very quiet location and th price per night is unbeatable. The only issue was that on the map it looks as if it's only 6km from the airport, which it is not. The hotel is very comfortable. It is tucked away in a very quiet, rural location on a hill close to town. The spectacular view of the central valley from the terrace cannot be beat. The hotel is a very friendly, relaxing place to stay.

We used this as our last night before leaving; coming from Arenal to the airport in San Jose. Nice B&B with an amazing view. Small signs but fairly easy to find. In a small town not much to do tourist wise. Rooms were small and no TV but were comfortable and quiet. Breakfast isnt included but is only $9 per person.

WOW! This place is beautiful! I would go back here in a heart beat. The manager is a darling and good-looking man. He makes the best breakfast and is really helpful. The only reason I would not stay here is if I was on my honeymoon...the walls are a bit thin.

Stayed in the Atenas for 3 nights with my girlfriend. Atenas is about 30 dollars away from the hotel with a cab. Jonathan went out of his way to be helpful and friendly. The B&B was a little hard to find, but a quick call and we were given great directions leading us right to it. This hotel is just outside of Atenas. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The views are amazing. The staff is wonderful. It is located at the top of a mountain. Overlooking San Jose Valley. You can't see much of the city during the day just rolling mountains and valleys but at night the lights of the city come alive and create a light spectacular below. […] We were out before breakfast each day. It is not included in the room price. It was a 1/2 hour drive to the airport. Tours weren't available from Atenas and if you stay here I would highly recomment having a car. If you want to get away from it all without being in the middle of no where then Vista Atenas is for you. The views are breath taking day and night. No television makes you enjoy where you are and you don't even miss it. My 12 yr old always plops down in front of the tv and is hard to get outside on vacation. The Vista Atenas B&B is a gem. We stayed there two nights during our trip: the first and the last. Its proximity to the Airport, makes it a perfect choice, especially is you are heading to the Nicoya Peninsula.

The B&B Vista Atenas was somewhat difficult to find arriving at night with rain and with very llttle signage and lighting. Jonathan, the manager, was very gracious by staying up to make sure that we were able to check in (he was also very helpful in explaining all of our information needs). Also, the driveway to the inn was very steep, a 1st gear type […] of grade with our Suzuki Alto micro-class vehicle (ironic that Alto means STOP). When morning arrived, we were awed at the majestic, panoramic view from poolside. Our room, that was considered the entry level class of accommodation, although Spartan, was very clean. The room amenities were considered above average with a coffee maker (they supplied the unlimited stash of excellent, local coffee), larger than dorm-size refrigerator and wireless internet-I had brought my laptop. The bedding was slightly sub-par when compared to the Holiday Inn Express industry standards, however, was very adequate for the task at hand. Overall, for the money, this is an unbeatable “Eddie Type of Deal” and I would recommend this accommodation to all of my friends. Läs mer

I felt that this Bed & Breakfast was not accommodating at all. First off you are not close to any towns within walking distance so they should make the hotel a bit more comfortable and have all the necessities available. We were there during a time when they had not had so much rain since 1964! You would think based on the situation they would open […] the dining room. allow guests to have free coffee and tea...it was always locked unless you paid to eat!
