We enjoyed our stay at Iberostar Beach. The pool and swimup bar were wonderful! The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The hotel when you arrive is stunning! The lobby and grounds are beautiful. But things start to go down hill from there. The food quality was not up to par (even at specialty restaurants) for what was expected. We also learned that all the lovely servers on the beach were 'trainees' - this means that they work long hard hours but are not paid and their […] only incomes are tips. This greatly upset me for two reasons 1. these poor people, working all day with no salary 2. this is supposed to be an all-inclusive, including gratuities - I have never tipped so much in my whole life! From the servers, water area, drivers/guides - everywhere you go you are tipping. I had to go to the front desk to change large bills more than once in our 5 days. And what's up with the Star Friends that everyone raves about? Saw them around, but they were only talking/hanging with the drinking adult crowd. I had kids with me - a 12 & 14 year old, who expected to be partaking in all of the Star Friend activities. When my kids asked for a soccer ball for the daily 4 pm soccer game time, a Star Friend kicked one over and left. Needless to say there was no game. That was our only interaction with a Star Friend during our stay. We had to spend most days off of resort paying $$ for activities/tours or paying for water sports at resort that were not included. The staff was wonderful! They always had a smile on their face and were always willing to help with any questions you might have. The entertainment was also great. No matter your age there are plenty of activities on and off the resort. There are 3 restaurants and 2 buffet style areas that are open until 12:00 am. We stayed at Iberostar beach late July which was considered the low season so there were plenty of seats and space around the hotel. The staff was superb in their service with smiles and cordial greetings. The drinks were fantastic with speciality mix drinks such as the "bob marley"--highly recommended. Our room was a standard one, it wasn't ocean […] view room, but from our balcony we were able to see the ocean and the pier with stunning views of the side of mountains and villas. The room was well conditioned and included a ceiling fan. My only complaint was that there was one stained spot on a carpet next to the bed--I just turned it over. The food was pretty good overall with different tastes and variety everyday. The meat quality was not as fresh in the buffet. The service in the buffet was excellent with waiters and waitresses cleaning after you and attending to your needs. REMEMBER to reserve when you arrive to Iberostar. We ate at the Cajun and Steak house ones during our stay. The Cajun restaurant offered great buffet appetizers--we had like 3 plates of coconut shrimp. The main courses we ordered from the menu were average. The steakhouse was a better specialty restaurant with american style steaks. There was never a dull moment with the Iberorstar "Star Friends" who entertained the guests during the day and with the nightly events. The hotel itself was just fine. The food was decent, not great, the drinks were good, not great, the service was great, except at the front desk where they were less than willing to help. The rooms were just awful. Plain and simple. The a/c turns off when you leave the room, then when you get back, you walk into a room about 95 degrees, humid, musty, […] moldy, and just all around unpleasant. The bathroom floor stayed wet for the entire time we were there, as there is no circulation in there at all. The mini fridge is barely luke warm, so the beer and drinks in there are undrinkable. The front desk was no help at all when we complained about the room temp..it took all night for the room to get comfortable, meaning no good sleep, then you leave and it goes right back to awful. I would not recommend this Iberostar, we stayed at the "beach" one, so maybe the higher up ones are better, but you better check the a/c at those before booking... it was a very long 5 days of no sleep, but Jamaica was great, the people are friendly, almost annoying really, they try too hard...but it was fun, just stay somewhere else..ya mon! We absolutely loved our stay at the Iberostar. This was my second time to Jamacia and my first experience was at the Sandals Whitehouse, which was very disappointing. The entire staff was tremendously helpful and friendly and the service was excellent. They would greet my 2yo daughter by name every day and engage her. I was especially impressed with Amica from the kids club (sp?) who my daughter loved. They hold a disco for kids every night and engage the kids throughout the day. There is a sufficient variety of food, especially at the Buffet Dining Room. There are 3 specialty restaurants including the Japanese and Cajun. The last alternative is Uncle Tony's steak house with outside seating. No comments on this one as it was not frequented in the evening. As for the buildings and grounds, the rooms could use some modernizing including installation of HDTV s. Interiors have wood and marble decor. The lobby and reception were nicely decorated with a welcoming grace. The reception staff tried to be friendly upon check-in and even serve a welcome cocktail. Staff tries to be friendly and courteous most of the time. The nightly entertainment activities could use some improvement...just some locals singing pop tunes. This is not to be compared with cruise style entertainment (does not come close). There are some day beach activities including volleyball and beach aerobics. Kayaks and snorkel gear to use at the beach for 1 hour daily is at no charge. All other water sports levy a charge. There is a free scuba class at the pool as well.
