I stayed for 2 nights in April 2013 when the whole town was pretty empty, so I was given the choice of two rooms. I chose room 1 which faces on to the road outside. The room was spacious, clean, with 2 beds, air-con and a TV. The bathroom/shower could probably do with some upgrading. You should bear in mind though that if you are staying in La Fortuna […] you will be out most of the time doing activities, and for the time that you spend in the hotel the facilities are perfectly adequate. Hotel is located in downtown of fortuna, to get to the plaza you have to walk only 2 blocka, less than 2 minutes. Many restaurants, "sodas" and stores nearby. Private location. Hotel service is awesome!! Our A/C stopped working one night and i told manager early in the morning, he got it fixed in less than 3 hours and let us sleep in another room while […] he fixed it. Also they have very good prices for trips and tours. He even helped us find transport to our next destination. I am very happy with this hotel's service, location, privacy and hospitality. The owner/employee was very nice and helpful, the room was badly maintained, towels had holes, unless you are on a tight budget i do nor recommend this hotel.The area is safe and in the center of the town.

Our manager Louis was excellent. He took care of everything we needed, including transportation and phone calls and reservations !!! The price was great, hot showers , good food and nice big beds.... Nice dining in kitchen also for guests. Would receommend this hotel highly. It was a pleasure staying here. Thank you Louis !!!

The staff were pleasant and helpful. Shower was big and water pressure was high. Plenty of hot water!! Small ac unit needs to be left on when ur gone to keep it cool enough. No coffee in am. That would have been a treat

My two girls and I loved our stay at El Volcan. The staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. We were able to book our excursions from the hotel - no problem. It was also in easy walking distance from the town. I'd recommend this hotel to my friends.

Close to town. Not the Hilton by any means, but it is a nice little hotel. The owner and staff were very friendly and always willing to help with daily plans. Two small blocks away from the main street that runs through town.

This hotel greatly exceeded my expectations! My wife, 2 young teenagers and myself booked it as they could acommodate 4 in a room with 2 Queen beds. The rooms were very clean,shower was very good size with great water pressure and plenty of hot water as well.The manager,Mauricio, was so very helpful and honest that after 3 nights stay he felt like famiry! […] Mauricio also booked our Baldi Hot Springs day and also the Sky Tram and Zip Line trip thru the office and saved us a considerable sum of money compared to retail rates.The view of the volcano right out the door of the hotel was unbelievable! The hotel is 1/2 block from the City Center Park and directly across the street from the Park was La Parada soda, a 24/7 authentic Tico restaraunt that had excellent food served either off the menu or at the buffet. The prices of the motel and also the food at the soda mentioned were very fair compared to the rest of our 8 day Costa Rican trip. Overall, I must say that this stay was much better than we expected and Mauricio was a true and honest manager that represents the true meaning of Pura Vida. The only minus was very noisy airconditions both in our room and also from the neighbour room and some trafic noise. Apart from that a fine hotel at that price, and good service from the reception.

Hotel is located close to the park and the eating places. Staff is very friendly. But some rooms have vehicle noise problem.

It feels like staying in a basement as most of room don't have a window, or the window is open to the common area and won't have any sun shine coming in even if you open it. The room is very small and if you don't put " please clean it " sign out they won't clean it. Air conditioning barely works and TV can't be smaller.

I didnt expect much for the price - pleasantly surprised...real hot water (not the electric 'suicide showers'), a/c, clean, conveneint/safe location, and fast WiFi. Great deal, and the manager is incredibly nice/helpful...do yourself a favor and stay here. Can't heat the deal.

This little hotel is very basic in terms of furnishings but the location is perfect because you can walk a few short blocks to the town square for restaurants and enjoying the park etc. without being so close that it would be noisy. Similar to another reviewer's opinion - the staff is super helpful which makes up for the mediocre housekeeping.

This is a no-frills hotel owned by a very nice family in a fantastic location in which there are many restuarants, bars, and shopping within walking distance. The room is very basic, with a not-so comfortable bed/pillows but the A/C works, the shower gives you hot water, and you cant beat the price or location.. This is great for ppl who are not planning […] to spend a ton of time in their room. The location of this hotel is convenient, and the receptionist Mauricio was very very nice. The rooms are a bit small but some have a great view. The road is dark at night but all of La Fortuna is very safe.

Clean and reasonably well-maintained, but two of the rooms had no windows at all, and the ones that had windows either faced a concrete wall or an interior room. For the same price, a more centrally-located option, like the Carmela, offers breakfast, windows with views and a swimming pool. Hotel El Volcan can be noisy, as the rooms are arranged around […] a central kitchen area, but might work fine for a group. Minor ant problem. Tarvitsimme paikan vain yhdeksi yöksi läpikulkumatkalla. Onneksi vietimme vain yhden yön, koska "Hotelli" oli mauton. Huoneemme oli aivan vilkasliikenteisen kadun vieressä, onneksi oli korvatulpat. Veden tulo katkaistiin/katkesi yhdeksän jälkeen illalla, eikä respa ollut auki kuin aamu puolikahdeksasta iltayhdeksään. Tästä ei mainittu missään muualla […] kuin respan suljetussa ovessa. Feucht, dreckig, zentral gelegen, nicht zu empfehlen. Kein Fenster zu öffnen. Das gleiche gilt für das sogenannte Bad (völlig ungereinigt).
