Hotell Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino - Altoona

I love this hotel. I stay in many Hotels and it is nicest by far. Hotel help is a little distracted or I would rate a 5* stay.

A very nice place with comfortable rooms and beds. Wish they could do something about the smokey smell that seems to making its was over from the casino!

it was ok, the room was beautiful, but the water pressure in the shower was low. The steakhouse food was great, the buffet not so much.

The only thing I found was the long hike from the motel room area to the locations to dine. The other negative was the noise of other guests at 2:30 in the morning as they returned from the casino. However, one has to expect this possibility at a casino hotel.

We loved the hotel - we visited the Casino but were disappointed in the smok filled atmosphere - the Casino has a non-smoking area but it is probably only 10 % of the Casino floor and one has to walk thru the smoking area to get to the non-smoking area.

This hotel is a year old. It has modern decor and immaculate. It is attached to the casino. The only bummer part was that our 20 year old daughter couldn't go I. The casino. So we had to make an extra stop for her to have breakfast at a reasonable rate. We ate made to order eggs, sausage, and breakfast potatoes at the little cafe in the casino level […] for cheaper and better than you can get at Mc Donalds. Läs mer

The inside of the hotel and the rooms were beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. However, front desk staff was not very friendly. They acted as if serving us was a bother. The casino atmosphere was a little depressing. They could have used some upbeat music or planted some people who looked like they were having fun? Lots of sad out of shape truckers […] in the casino. Nice rooms - really like them. Except for the forever walk to and from the casino. Wow! It's a long one - especially if your room is at the end of the lonnnnnngggg hall ! Advice ladies: do not wear high heels unless they are extremely comfortable. I'm tellin' ya ~ it's one looonnng walk!

I would highly recommend this hotel. It was more comfortable than I thought it would be and very clean. The bar is nice and the restaurant had a nice selection on the menu, I had breakfast and lunch and both were excellent. We had a non smoking room and there was no evidence of it having been a smoking room. Of course it is a short walk into the casino […] without ever leaving the building. Läs mer

This is a fairly new hotel and has all of the modern conveniences in the room except for a Microwave. The Coffee Pot is a Kuerig, with a few coffee options, or you could bring your own favorites. How many hotels provide that? The room is spacious, and it was quiet even though it was totally booked the night we stayed. There is a quiet little lounge […] downstairs to share coffee, drinks and conversation. Starbucks is also available in the same area in the morning, as well as a nice little cafe with a well rounded menu , just downstairs. This hotel is connected to the Prairie Meadows Casino and race track, as well as several eating venues; a steakhouse, buffet, restaurant and a fast food area. This hotel is in Altoona which is just a short drive to downtown Des Moines, and just off of Interstate 80. Läs mer

had the jr suite, bathroom door had a hinky design, not good for privacy. Has very hard water, hotel could use softener system. Nice location, staff very friendly, especially since they were sold out. Shuttle service is handy
