When we arrived, the overwhelming sickly sweet/rotten smell of the cattle troughs and the cattle from the field right behind the hotel was so strong. I grew up with cattle and it can not be avoided. My thoughts since it was warm in June the windows will need to be opened to cool the room (like all the other resorts, BnB's, castles and hotels we stayed in the past 3 weeks.) The only reason we stayed was the amazing air conditioning they had!!! I guess as the problem with the cattle smell, they had no choice but to put it in. HOWEVER, we almost didnt stay due to checking in. I received a welcoming email prior to our arrival. It went on and on about the pub. (I understand a main source of income for them) NO WHERE did it direct us to enter the pub, go to the back of the pub to register into the hotel!!!!!! We stood outside the hotel ringing the bell, calling the telephone number (mind you it was 4:30 in the afternoon) until someone staying there explained where we had to go to register. As we approached the door (after checking in) I then noticed a small sign to the left of the foyer, which was covered by a bush saying where to register. Completely annoyed and figuring we were not staying until we found it had AC. Now we return to the pub for dinner and breakfast. Both experiences were the same: We were sat, our food and drink order given. Both meals were awful. No staff ever came back to follow up as to needing condiments, let alone payment.
