Courtyard by Marriott Portland City Center - Portland

Overall, our stay was OK. Staff was very friendly, but the hotel wasn't as nice as we expected for the price and location. Upon arrival we found that our room had not be properly cleaned (found hair in bathtub) and there wasn't any toiletries in the bathroom. We called the front desk and was informed that the cleaning staff was unavailable (it was after 7 PM), so one of the front desk clerks came up to clean our room. Again the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, but this should never have happened in the first place. The bed was not as comfortable as we have found in other hotels, would rate it a 4 out of 10. The shower was by far the worst part. The water quality and pressure was wonderful, but temperature control was impossible. It didn't matter what temperature the shower was set to, one minute the water would be ice cold, the next scalding hot. Showering became a terrible game where it would take several minutes to find several seconds of lukewarm bliss before having to scramble out of the scalding hot water only to have it turn ice cold where the game would start over. The only saving grace was the restaurant attached to the hotel, The Original. This place was great and we ate there three times during our three night stay. My recommendation would be to find another hotel nearby and walk to The Original for a spectacular meal.

The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Portland and the price per night was reasonable. The room was small, but adequate and was very clean.

Very convenient to many things.

The hotel itself was quite nice and the location was great. However, there were some problems with checking in. I had booked the room for two nights and paid for the rooms in-full in advance prior to even arriving. Everything went well upon checking in. The second night when I went to return to my room the key card did not work. I went to the front desk and they told me that I should have already checked out because they only had me in the system for one night. I stated that I had the receipt and e-mail to confirm I checked in for two nights and paid in full and I had all of this back in the room. I was not allowed access back to the room and was told I had to pay for another night if I wanted access. This was incredibly frustrating. My only option was to pay for another night and then get access to prove my confirmed booking. Upon getting back to the room I brought my confirmations back down to the desk and only at this point did they refund the charge they had just made me pay to get access back to the room. I was really surprised how poor the customer service was and that I was simply told I would not be allowed back into my room with paying for what I had already paid for. This definitely was an inconvenience to say the least.
