Arco Hotel

I’ve stayed several times at the ARCO. It’s within a block of an absolutely wonderful restaurant, the PONTE. Room is clean and staff is friendly. However at age 80 I would wish that the hotel was staffed round the clock and that there was a hotel bar and restaurant. Breakfast is adequate. Hallways and elevator are very chilly, I suppose because heat is expensive in Berlin and Germany in general. My bathroom, in particular the shower, was very small and somewhat difficult to enter and exit. But it did have a grab bar. Room safe was difficult, but room was warm. Wittenberg Platz is undergoing renovation making U-bahn travel west difficult especially unless you are familiar with the system as a whole. Wi-Fi seemed occasionally unavailable with each floor having, it appears, a separate Wi-Fi connection. Elevator is an add-on to a very old building requiring it to be located externally, so it is always rather frigid.

Hotel was in poor condition inside the room and out. The corridor lighting was off in places, the lift stops at mid-floor meaning you have to walk either up on down stairs (not a problem for me but may be for others), the carpet on the stairs was threadbare. The area outside the room was used a storage for a crib and (I think) soiled mattresses. The carpet in the room so dirty I would not walk on it barefoot and the 2 beds pushed together was offered as a double bed (booked a double bed). There was a hole in the wall with exposed wires and switch plates hanging of the wall. The staff were informed of most complaints and moved us to another room on the ground floor with a double bed which we thought was used by staff, although it was much smaller. The in-room safes are ancient combination locks that you have to ask for the key in reception. I learned on this trip that almost all double rooms/double beds in Germany are 2 x single beds pushed together, in some cases separate beds. This was the case but other hotels gladly made it up as a double, this hotel would not and the bed frames would leave a large gap between the mattresses. The bathroom was not clean and not maintained. Overall the stay was not enjoyable. I would not rebook this hotel, it was overpriced and over-rated. The only saving grace was the local Viet/Thai restaurant nearby called 'Saigon and more'. Good food, great atmosphere and service. No wonder it was busy.

Have stayed here before , and was top of my list to come back after a long absence.Great location, nice quiet street although central Berlin. Nice clean well kept room, own key for room and entry so no hassles.Very friendly staff, and nice continental breakfast in morning . ( additional charge ).Will return here again.
