If I could give zero stars, I would. We stayed at the Rio for a gymnastics meet, and it was an absolute nightmare. I called twice before our stay to confirm we had a remodeled suite with two queen beds—both times, I was assured that was what we booked. Instead, we arrived to find a single king bed, forcing one of my daughters to sleep on a couch and the other on a rollaway.
Then came the electrical issues. The outlets in our room would power low-wattage items like lamps, so we assumed they were fine. But when I tried to use my hairdryer, it wouldn’t work. Thinking it was broken, I bought a new one—only to find that one wouldn’t work either. It wasn’t until I went downstairs and plugged it into an outlet in the lobby that I realized the issue was our room’s power, not the hairdryer. I reported this multiple times, and despite being told maintenance would be sent, no one ever came to fix it.
Unfortunately, we weren’t the only ones dealing with complete incompetence. Several other gymnastics families had horror stories of their own:
One family checked into a room flooded with sewage from the toilet.
Another had a water pipe burst at 11 PM, soaking their entire room.
A third family was given a room that reeked of weed, and the hotel’s “solution” was to spray air freshener instead of moving them—until the mother demanded a different room.
This hotel is beyond mismanaged. The lack of basic customer service, maintenance, and overall cleanliness is unacceptable.
