Had a nice stay at Marriott on Fifth. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location, only 7 minutes walk from Times square and close to the subway. The hotel itself is pretty basic with no lounge, bars etc, but the free tea/coffee station on the first floor is a nice gesture. The carpets/decor in the hallways and parts of the room are a little dated, but everything works fine. The bed was super comfy and the shower was great. The room was very clean although again, parts of the decor are showing sign of age.
The only negative for me was that the window in my room wasn't closed tight at one side. This meant that there was more street noise in the room that I wanted, and with construction happening across the street I was woken up a few times in the early hours (these New Yorkers love to honk, even at 5am). I didn't go to New York for a quiet weekend and I wasn't expecting silence so it didn't bother me all that much.
Would I stay here again? Yes, for the right price. I think there are hotels which offer a more modern experience and have slightly more going on for not a lot more money.
