Hotel location amazing, close to transport, shopping and historical sights. An amazing old railway-station, looks beautiful from the outside. The service is absolutely impeccable, from check-in to check-out. Professional staff, smiling, offering help without us having to ask. This offered the most satisfaction throughout our stay.
However, if the building is amazing from the outside, it's a whole different story on the inside. "Old" can often be charming. This wasn't! Once you get past the reception, you'll see that the hotel is in dire need of a complete renovation. A few examples: the signs inside the lifts (next to the buttons) are so worn that you can't read what they say. The carpets have seen better days, paint has started to come of walls, doors etc. Our room was a Premier King (room 354) and, however spacious, it had its flaws. A handle on one of the windows had come off, the leather on the desk chair was extremely worn and torn. When standing by the windows, you could clearly feel cold air sipping through, which meant that we had to turn up the to 28°C, our kids were quite cold the first night. Also, add some paint-chippings here and there, and you'll quickly realize that the "5-star-rating" doesn't apply once you enter the lifts.
Having said that, we're not sorry we stayed here, mostly because of the location and the staff. They truly went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one.
