Good choice on a rocky beach.
Charming if slightly jaded hotel on a rocky beach. We picked it largely because of reviews claiming it had very good beach snorkling. Experienced divers and snorkelers will find that it has not. Only a couple of small live coralheads, admitedly a variety of smaller fish but mostly rocks and dead coral. The current can also be strong at times and the site is not ideal for children snorkeling. Annoying water scooters disturb the peace at times. The food is very good "americanized" mexican cooking without traditional spicing. Thanks to our server Carlos for making every meal very pleasant! The room (a suite) was spacious and comfortable but with rather simple interior. Something more comfortable than two plastic chairs on the balcony would have been appreciated. The pool area is shaded by the building for most of the day leading to very cold pool water but the ocean is just a few steps away. If you are golfers, don't miss the Niclaus designed Cozumel Country Club close to the hotel. Guests have free greenfee on the course! Go out in the afternoon and you will meet the local salt water crocodiles sun bathing in bunkers and by the water hazards. A great golfing experience! Rent a car! The Island is safe for driving and parking in town is easy. A car gives you easy access to beach clubs with better snorkling and freedom to discover Cozumel independently. All in all, even with the points above mentioned, we recommend the hotel for it's ambiance and it's nice food and service.
