We recently spent three nights at Deniz Houses a few weeks ago. We booked hotels for Istanbul fairly late, and as such the price was high, on the verge of what you would pay in say Paris for a good hotel. For the price we payed, one would expect a lot more. The staff was nice, if a bit surly when we didn't want their advice on tourist attractions. The room however was a different story. To get in, I had to fold myself down to an L due to the sheer smallness of the doors. Well inside, the heat was numbing, and no AC remote. Opening the window on this 'water view' room was a no go as well, due to the extremely well trafficked ring road outside. The bathroom, in turn, asked us to not throw our paper in the toilet after doing 'number 2'. If there's something I'd enjoy at a hotel, it would be being able to go to the bathroom at some point. Not so much here, unless you want the place to reek. On another note completely, the breakfast was so-so. I'd advice eating out instead. Cut up bread, stale sausages and transparent coffee. It's not the worst hotel breakfast I've had, but certainly not the best. Finally though some praise where praise is due: For a first time visitor to Istanbul, the location is great. Five minutes walk from Sultanahmet and Aya Sofia. And the staff, while being a bit surely, were helpful when we wanted something. Still, if I were you, I'd pay the premium and get a nicer hotel in the vicinity. There's quite a few of them.
