A great place to stay in the middle of Hexham
A change of plans took me to Hexham and the Beaumont hotel for what was to be a very pleasant experience. Arrived two hours early and was only looking to store my bagage as I fully expected to be asked to wait until regular check-in was open. Instead the hotel went the extra mile and had my room ready in a bit more than half an hour. And the Abbey and the pleasant park just across the road it was very easy to spend those 30 minutes in relaxing way.
I got a spacious twin room on the 1st floor which looked like it had been freshly refurbished. Very good bathroom and both a work desk and small round table with comfortable chairs. The one drawback, particularly in the hot weather was the lack of Air Conditioning with the main source of fresh air being the window which opened up to the main road running through Hexham. The noise was not bothersome to me with the window closed and I was fine working in the evening with the window open but trying to sleep with the window open was a challenge even with earplugs.
On the bottom floor of the hotel there is an inviting resturant and bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner which was well visited by hotel guests and other patrons alike. I did not eat at the hotel as I left early each day to hike along sections of Hadrian's Wall but I would like to try the food on my next visit.
Service was swift and friendly and I will be happy to stay at the Beaumont again.
