Excellent budget ryokan
Dougoya is a bit dwarfed under huge hotel complexes, but they have really done the best of the situation, with an atmospheric entry and small Japanese gardens that the rooms look out on. We had a large room on the first floor with plenty of space. The staff were very friendly, spoke excellent English and made their best to make us feel comfortable. They offered us private use of the ryokan's onsen on no less than two occations during our three night stay. We used it once and really appreciated it. The number of bathrooms isn't that many, but it was never crowded and they were kept clean. The ryokan is in the Dogo onsen area with the relaxed feeling of people walking around in yukata at all hours. We'd recommend to explore the road behind the Dogo Onsen Honken for restaurants. It's easy to get to the area with the tram from the train station (as well as reaching the centre of town and the castle by tram) and only a short walk from the tram stop to the ryokan. If we're in the area again, we'd definately return.
