Would you rather spend time in a swanky lobby than see the city of Amsterdam? Then the Moxy is your fit. Located some distance from the city center, it is less than ideal for tourists. Although there has been an apparent effort to cater to the needs of self-appointed globetrotters with stylish decorating and motivational quotes á la Barney Stinson, the general standard of the rooms and service do not motivate its rather high prices combined with the distance to the sights of Amsterdam. The staff is well-meaning, but somewhat poorly trained, arguably a flaw in management. The staff's command of English is ordinary, well below the average Dutch, a people famed for their command of English as a second language.
Amsterdam Centraalstation is about ten minutes away by public transport, but if you want to see the sights you need to either transfer at the central station or be prepared for a rather long walk. For those of you still adamant on booking this location, get a bus pass as the cab drivers will scam you; they will declare they are not accepting any debit or credit card, only accepting cash payments. They will simply pocket the cash and leave the taximeter be. This practice is illegal, tourists beware.
Consider booking something closer to the city center at the same price which would merit the same standard of accommodation, without the bling. Worried you won't have a swanky lobby to hang out in? Believe me, there are places to go in Amsterdam besides the lobby.
