One of the top spots in the area is the former town hall that was built in the 19th century. While it fell out of use when Chorlton-on-Medlock became a part of Manchester proper, it has since had its entire interior redesigned. You can still see the alluring historic exterior during your visit.
You may also want to visit The Whitworth, which is a popular art museum in the area. You'll find around 55,000 items in its collection including sculptures, textiles and watercolours. Some iconic artists on display here include Francis Bacon, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Barbara Hepworth.

You can experience quite a lot just by visiting this single area of Manchester. While much of the area is made up of the University of Manchester, you'll also find several museums and parks. Just be sure to check the opening hours for each before visiting.
When you're in this district, you'll find yourself close to quite a few other iconic locations in Manchester. Spinningfields to the north has more museums and galleries, but if you're interested in shopping, the Central Retail District is just a few minutes away by car or public transport.
